Review of The G Spot from 28 June 2009

With a name like that you almost expect this place to be a thinly veiled den of iniquity, involving saunas, 'models’ who are in fact ladies of the night and massages that cost LOTS of money because they’re not really massages. So you could imagine my surpise when a group of friends insisted I should come (no pun intended) along with them.

Luckily, it was nothing of the sort; The G spot is the new girls bar in town. Friends and I had the pleasure of being invited to what was billed as a 'private’ launch night, complete with free champagne (not much use as I’m off the grog at the moment) and vodka if you fancy it.

It was a very nice-looking establishment. You could tell they’d paid attention to detail here… it did look rather Bordello-esque I must say. two seater chairs in dark corners, what looked like a triple sofa bed with soft lighting and big pillows and a circular table and sofa at the front (presumably for drunken games of spin the bottle?) The interior designer must have had fornication on the brain, I’m sure of it.

The spread of wines and spirits are of the standard you’d expect in the wider west end bar scene - you get Zubrowka and Amaretto as well as the staples, and the wine lists are short and sweet. Nothing adventurous, but nothing offensive either. The bar staff are (ahem) 'easy on the eye’, which I suppose always helps for attracting women to the bar to part with their cash. The main launch is on friday 3rd July, runs from 6pm till 3am and is open of Friday and Saturday nights. It’s also free. Get involved!
