Compliment

We had a recommendation to go to Pyramid imaging from a friend who also takes film seriously. We had our summer's booty of unravelled exposures- saved our money for a big processing bill and brought them in, excitedly. We asked for the prints to be matte and left them for the week because this, as in most photo shops, is the cheapest time duration in which to have your photos developed. We had approximately 10 rolls of film, and most were to be normally processed and a few were to be cross processed and we went home and imagined our photos. My husband went back for the photos a week later and none of them were ready. He was sent away to return in a few hours- so they developed them all in that interim. We came, still excited, undaunted by the unforeseen delay, and we eagerly opened the envelopes. All the photos were glossy. We were disappointed and asked the employee to suggest how to resolve this. He was sort of standoffish, initially, and subversively insinuated that it was our fault that the photos were glossy- despite our holding of the chit, filled in by the manager of Pyramid, that said in big, bold, capitalized latters 'ALL MATTE'. He seemed to be dissuading us from asking for them to be printed again, but we were, uncharacteristically stubborn. This is because to us, this was a big purchase, and we care a lot about photos, and our photos and we were furnishing our new flat. He then said, they would take a while, and to call back in another week.
We did and we got the photos and they are fine now. My husband went in to pick them up by himself and he told me that the employee seemed a bit more empathetic so it possibly was just a case of a bad day occurring. The employee also threw in the old, unwanted glossies which was a nice touch as he just as easily could have thrown them out. My friend still swears by them, and if it came to it, I probably would go there again, but that's if I can't find anywhere better in the city.
