Had the occasion to visit this quirky little coffee haven in Broughton Street with my granddaughter and although the fare was excellent, the edge was taken off the visit by being overcharged, however after correspondence via emails, all was forgiven - so no harm done! For super choice of coffee in “unusual” surroundings - give it a try!

Finally a top drawer coffee place which is 2nd to none. I have been resident in the area for over a decade and waited a long time for something of this calibre to appear. Coffee enthusiasts fear not, Artisan Roast is here. For sitting in there is a fantastic wee back room with an eastern feel where you can wile away the afternoon over a quality brew. Thank you Artisan Roast, you’ve saved me from over milky cappuccinos and frustratingly weak coffee.

If you most value coffee quality as the dimension on which you rate cafes, Artisan Roast is simply the best. You cannot find coffee this good elsewhere in Edinburgh; Kilimanjaro cafe comes in second, but I don’t think they roast their own beans. If you are the kind of person whose day is made or broken by the perfectness of a double-short espresso, this is the place for you. They take their coffee extremely seriously. This comment is directed particularly directed towards those visitors, students and expats from the American west coast: if you are a connoisseur, this is the place for you.

I’ve been to just about every cafe in Edinburgh and surrounds .. going to cafes is an addiction of mine. Forget the coffee chains (Starbucks et al), their coffee is lousy and they have all the atmosphere of an airport departure lounge. Artisan Roast on the other hand is cool in the truest sense. The place is relaxed, friendly and staffed with knowledgeable enthusiasts. The music is spot on, the price is right and so is the (albeit limited) range of cakes. But coffee is the hero and this is a temple. Simply the best coffee on offer in Edinburgh, anywhere … to drink there, to take away or to buy as beans or ground for preparing at home later.
Space is a bit limited, but they have recently opened up a back room, so there is no reason not to drop in if your in the Broughton Street area or make a special trip from afar if you are a real coffee lover.
Its a little jewel of excellence .. how I wish their were lots of other places as good as this specialising on the rest of life’s little pleasures. Go there … now! Only one at a time though because I found it, OK, and I don’t want it to get too crowded.

Smacked with the smell of freshly ground coffee upon entering, and a selection of coffee beans that would impress even a hard core coffee enthusiast, the atmosphere in Artisan Roast is as warm as your insides are after experiencing one of their delicious coffees! A friend had recommended this place to me after explaining that it was the best latte in Edinburgh, and I am inclined to agree. The freindly member of staff took his time to make my coffee and the end result was well worth the wait! They also stock a selection of chocolate and honey treats that make really nice gift ideas.

This place has the best coffee I've tasted outside of Melbourne, Australia. Set up by a Kiwi and a Colombian it's got to be a good combination where the coffee is concerned. It's no cafe with only a couple of cakes on offer for eats, but it does have the coffee that every exiled Aussie in Britain has been longing for.
They also stock Coco chocolate at the same prices as the store in Bruntsfield Place and it is damn fine chocolate. Expensive but worth it. The chocolate goes well with the coffee, but I don't get the honey as they don't have any sachets for single serves with the coffee and most of it is handcreams and candles anyway. Still, nice touch.
My only gripe is that it's too far from where I live in Bruntsfield.
