You can’t visit Edinburgh without a least visiting Greyfriars Bobby Statue. However the main attraction is all the history which is around it. You are seconds form Greyfriairs Cemetory which is well worth the visit in itself to see some of the real history of the capital.

To a great extent the history of Bobby has been hijacted by Walt Disney but then so have so many other things. Worth searching out the truth about what happened.

The statue of famous dog Bobby, lies clolse to the National Museum of Scotland, so if you visiting the museum dont forget to see the statue. The statue is associated with graveyard and church, which are also worth seeing. Bobby statue is most visited statue in Scotland, not a statues of such great people like William Wallace, Sir Walter Scott.

Seen it coming home from many a night out… guess if you’re a tourist and know the story it would be a good place to have your photo taken!

Hmm - I’m not quite sure how many stars to give Greyfriar’s Bobby. The story is a great one with John Gray’s loyal dog staying at his grave keeping watch for 14 years after John Gray was buried in the Greyfriars graveyard.

So this dedicated little fella stuck to his task whatever the weather - or so the story goes. However, for a famous little Skye Terrier with a very famous story - you could almost miss the statue as it’s an actual size job. So highly celebrated but also rather small and I am sure some people might find the statue disappointing - although of course it’s about the story and the statue itself is very well done.

Outside of that it’s a nice part of town to explore from, so a good place to start on the tourism trail.

Quirky fact - Greyfriar’s Bobby is not alone in the world of loyal and dedicated dogs. In Japan, or indeed Tokyo to be precise there is the story of a dog called Hachiko. The dog apparently saw his master off at the start of the day and met him at Shibuya station. His master passed away in 1925 but Hachiko continued to return every evening to wait for his master for 10 years. Hackio like his Edinburgh twin is immortalised in a bronze statue outside the crazily busy Shibuya station.

Very moving, to think of Greyfriar’s Bobby sitting at the grave of his master for 14 years. Whether the story is literally true or an expansion of a true story, the statue is sweet. Well worth your time to find the statute and take a picture. This is a must see for any dog (or animal) lover.

A lovely statue, with a wonderful slice of history behind it. The story of Bobby is easy enough to find on the web, but if you visit Edinburgh, you really should try and see him.

The statue of the most famous dog, the Skye Terrior Bobby, ever to grace Edinburgh lies proud opposite the National Museum of Scotland. The statue is lovely to look at and the associated graveyard and the recently upgraded church is a lovely quaint place to visit.

The story of Greyfriars Bobby provides to be a moving account of ‘mans best friend’ looking after his master into the after life. However, much of this story may well be fictional. Of course one does not go and analyse stories of Edinburgh’s past, as I can only assume many stories have been exaggerated for the tourists!

The area is an excellent area to start any day trip in Edinburgh with museums, shops, eating places and pubs all in nearby vicinity.

Located on the corner of Candlemaker Row and George IV Bridge, the little statue of a Skye Terrier dog named Bobby breathes life into the old adage, “Man’s best friend”. The heartwarming story of Greyfriars Bobby speaks of an unprecedented devotion and loyalty that is truly humbling.

The story goes that following the death and burial of his master, Bobby sat by his grave for 14 years, despite treacherous weather conditions and protest by the locals. This unfailing dedication is captured in this unique and lifelike statue and is a must-see, even if only passing by.
