A fantastic shopping mall. Feels very spacious as it is open all the way to the top. All your fave stores under one roof & lots of coffee stops to. You can take in a movie have a massage, visit the spa and lots more besides. Well worth a visit and why not visit the former Royal Yaught Brittania whilst you’re there

Shopping in Edinburgh can be stressful, what with most of the trade being done on Princes Street and the busier parts of the Old Town.

Enter Ocean Terminal. This retail centre tucks everything under one roof, is easy to reach and provides free parking. All the high street names are present & correct and there's the obligatory cinema too, courtesy of Vue.

This is a weakness as much as a strength though- complexes like this often feel like they are missing soul and character, and OT struggles to be any different.

There are occasional pieces of sanitised art scattered around to remind you of OT's role in regenerating Leith, and the roots of the area: a golden anchor under an escalator for example. However, there is still a shortage of personality here. Still, 'personality' probably doesn't mean much when you're being buffeted along by the militant shoppers on Princes Street, the land of heehaw space and parking.

OT is the smart alternative on a Saturday afternoon.

Any ex-patriot returning to Edinburgh would be astounded to see how much the city landscape has changed recently. But nowhere is this more obvious than the former port of Leith, with the ultra-modern Ocean Terminal complex the jewel in its crown.

The area once boasted extensive docklands, and pubs regarded as off-limits to most ‘landlubbers’. But now there are regeneration programmes underway, with land that once languished on the estuary’s muddy shores now reclaimed for modern flats.

Ocean terminal shopping centre is a shining example of the city’s ambition to re-invigorate a rundown area with something for the whole community. There are multi-storey car parks at either end of the shopping complex, and an overspill car park on vacant ground in front (all free).

Inside, the complex boasts retail units (including Debenhams, Gap, French Connection, Marks and Spencers, the Bear Factory and X-ile), exhibition areas, a gym (where you can watch sparring boxers through the window), restaurants, cafes, a multi-screen cinema (The Vue), as well an indoor climbing frame set out like ship’s rigging, Molly’s soft play centre for kids bored with being trailed around the shops, banks, acupuncture and massage centres, and a flight simulator. Ocean Terminal is also where the Royal yacht Britannia is bearthed - so why not follow in the footsteps of Presidents and other royalty and book yourself a tour?

In other words, something for everyone.

Ocean Terminal is a good shopping centre with a wide choice of chain stores aswell as a small selection of one off shops.

Chain stores include the department store Debenhams, ladies fashion Jane Norman (my personal favourite) and New Look, shoe chain Schu and many more.

There is also a cinema on the top floor as well as plenty of places to grab a coffee or a nice meal.

The unique thing about Ocean Terminal is that it has direct access to the Royal Yacht Brittania - the yacht previously owned by the royal family and one of Edinburgh's popular tourist attractions.

Although a bit out of the way, Ocean Terminal provides a wide range of shops for all your shopping needs. It is also is a great scenic location right down by the water in Leith. There are a variety of restaurants and also a cinema. It is an ideal place to go for a day out, avoiding the hassle of the city centre. There are often exhibitions on in and around Ocean Terminal so it is a very lively and interesting place to be.

Ocean Terminal is a new sort of shopping centre I think. Unlike the alternatives in Edinburgh, it's pretty classy and has several boutiques and a few designer stores, as well as the normal chains - Topshop and the like, and a Marks and Spencers food store. The shopping is pretty good, and is almost always quiet enough to be tolerable as the centre is newish and a lot of older Edinburgh folk don't quite trust it yet. The food is wonderful - none of your shopping centre food court nonsense! There are a few good sandwich and snack places, and some really classy bars and restaurants - one of which is Edinburgh's renowned Izzi, known for it's chic-ness and superb food. Izzi also has a view of the waterfront and the Royal Yacht Britannia. If that's not enough for you, never fear! There's a good, big Vue cinema as well and there's always some sort of art installation going on somewhere. There's also loads of free parking and a pretty decent bus service from the front doors to the city centre. I normally hate shopping centres, but I actually like going to this one, I'd recommend giving it a try.
