A lovely family run cafe/bistro at Tollcross. On my first visit I had a coffee which was better than avarage and then went back to try their lunch. Had their famous macaronni cheese. It tasted wonderful and was a very large portion! So much so that I ended up taking some home with me for my evening meal :-)
There is a seperate weekend menu to the weekday one. Recommended when you are in the mood for a nice large comfort meal well prepared and served with care. I would also try the muffins – baked fresh each day they are what a muffin ought to be! Full of flavour and crumble as you eat.
If your ever in the Tollcross/Meadows area looking for a quick bite to eat, then look no further than 'The Laddies'!!! Friendly staff and tasty food. I'm a bit worried however as my daughter has taken a shine recently to Simon! Breakfast yesterday hit the spot so I thought I better leave you a comment!

This is the exotic name of a small bistro in Tollcross. It offers homely atmosphere, good menu, gluten free dishes for vegetarians and children's portions. If you are in a hurry you can just pop in for a takeaway meal. The staff welcomes smokers too and accommodates them outdoors when the weather is good. This is a great place for people with sweet tooth like me - difficult to resist the parade of freshly-baked cakes and crumbly shortbreads.
This is a little cafe on a handy corner at toll cross. Very central but unlike an over crowded main street it is a calm and relaxing place. It serves amazing tea and coffee at reasonable prices. It is also very private, good for intense little chats and general banter. Food is also served.
Two Thin Laddies is a lovely wee cafe in Tollcross. It's menu includes toasted panninis, soup, baked potatoes, pasta bakes, nachos and lots more. The portions are big and the accompanying side salads beat the usual bit of lettuce and one slice of tomato and cucumber. I must mention the best fruit scones in Edinburgh, they are pretty substantial and I've yet to find a better scone! The only negative is that the service can be a bit on the slow side, it's a good idea to let the staff know you are there before you sit down! This is one of my favourite places where you feel perfectly at ease lingering over lunch with friends or on your own with a good book. They do takeaway too!
