On a week night or at certain times during the week, this is defintely in my 'top 5 Birmingham pubs'. The Old Crown, as well documented by the other review here, serves great beer at quite reasonable prices (£2.40 Fosters), which is reasonable considering your only a stone-throw away from the city centre, and the atmosphere is great.
However, whilst I love its warmth and cosy nature, if your looking for a lovely quiet, peaceful, tranquil pint, avoid most Saturdays, during the day and the evening. With Birmingham City Football Club only a 10 minute walk away, it is very popular with Birmingham fans before and after the game, whilst on Saturday nights it really fills up with clubbers getting as many cheap beers down them as possible before hitting the nearby haunts that Digbeth has to offer.
Whilst this may be what you want, on a Saturday between 5pm-9pm, you can find a very strange mix of drunk 'die-hard Birmingham football fans' and clubbers, which can become a bit roudy to say the least. Also, at this stage, there are no seats or tables left, and often theres little room to stand in a really congested pub!
In conclusion, great pub, but avoid on Saturdays!

The old crown is the oldest run inn/pub in Birmingham city, and dates back to the 1368!!
Extremely traditional pub, wooden beams on the exterior with themes continued inside. As a local to Brum I have been in many a pub, and I can say without doubt that this pub serves the best tasting draught beers I've ever drunk!! Fresh and fruity, you'll want to savour every pint! Lagers and ales served, as well as good honest pub grub, and accommodation if you so desire.

Parking just round the back, and located right next to the Custard Factory, so if you've been having a look round or shopping at the Factory, the Old Crown will whet your whistle at the end of the day.

Not many pubs like this around anymore, so if you're about Digbeth make sure you pop in.
