Review of Wing Wah from 1 February 2011

Ive been to this place a few times, lunch and evening and ive got mixed ratings each time.

Of course, one thing good about this place is theres plenty of car park space so you can park without the headache.

The restaurant is nicely decorated to a reasonable standard.

The staff dont speak good english infact everytime ive went its been the case, yet the staff do the job in taking drinks order and dirty plates when finished.

Selection of food is good, starters, mains and dessert lots to choose. Quality its okay, the point of a buffet is just eat and not to much on flavour, some stuff taste the same. Food is always hot too.

In terms of value i think it may be too expensive.

In conclusion wing wah used to be the top dog in the west midlands, but i think other buffet restaurants have catched up such as the likes of jimmy spice and the very, very good cosmos.

those restaurants have matched the qualty even better.
Before people were amazed of wing wah,how many dishes they did and the teppenyaki etc.. but others are doing it now.

as touched on earlier the decor in jimmy spice and cosmos is much better and in terms of value they slighlty better.

If think for some people its a matter of choice, they may like a particular thing about one restaurant which makes them go back.

for me its gone down the pecking order.

Fantiscic buffet service, with a really nice variety of food. I`m a big fan of Chinese food, but sometimes depending on where you go the food can be a bit stoggy, but here its nice and fresh, and not too filling, so you can eat more of the rich food. The location is great to for any kind of commuter

My friend took my to Wing Wah’s and the way he discribed it I was expecting alot!
We arrived around 8 and although we hadnt booked a table we got seated right away. It was very busy with families so it was quite noisy…later realised why - they had a special on so any person under 1.4metre could eat for free!

I didnt go mad on the starter even though the duck and chicken both looked really good. I was trying to save myself for the main meal. Its all serve yourself so instead of overly stacking our plates we just served ourselves smaller amounts but went through quite a few plates. This way we got to try loads of dishes. The waiters were really efficient and friendly and our last plate was always taken away while we were off getting more food!

The main dishes tasted good, although most of the meat was a little dry…
Then…the I discovered the best thing about this place! If I come back again I will skip the starters and the mains and just go straight for this!!!
You choose all the ingedients you want (and they have quite a wide selection - squid, chicken, beef, pork, lamb, peppers, baby corn, bean sprouts - the list goes on and on!) Then hand it over to the chef and they cook it right infront of you seasoning it however you like (although I just let her do her thing, I’m sure she knows how its all seasoned best!)
It tasted amazing. Perfectly cooked. Really lovely.

I was so full by now, but I just had to go for round 4 - pudding! They had such a selection. So many different kinds of fresh fruit, cakes, pastries, ice creams, jelly, a chocolate fountain. Phhhhft, I couldnt have asked for more!
And it was only £12.00 each! Grand.

Wing Wah is one of your typical eat as much as you like, buffet restaurants. Prices start from around £6.00 for lunch time which works out very good value but if you want more choice visit in the evening where prices roughly double but this depends on the day you go such as Fridays or Saturdays.

They have a wide range of dishes which are reguarly topped up so are all hot and fresh, and they also do teppanyaki - which is where you choose all the ingredients you want and the chefs cook it fresh infront of you.
The drinks are priced reasonably, and the desserts are ok - but nothing to shout out about, they include squares of cake, ice cream or fresh fruit.

Booking is advisable as it gets extremley busy every day at lunch time and in the evening.

Overall, I would give Wing Wah a 4* as there are a couple of better quality chinese restaurants near by.

Don’t live too far away, so have visited a few times. Great place to go with a group of friends, but best to book as it does get packed, especially at night!

If you’re celebrating a birthday, you can order a birthday treat to be brought to your table (huge bowl of ice-cream, or an ice swan full of fresh fruit!), and the waitresses give a rendition of “Happy Birthday To You”!

Food is replenished frequently, so is always hot and fresh. There’s more choice during the evening than at lunchtime, but overall a fab restaurant!

I've been there a few times for Sunday lunch but for a change went on a Saturday evening and was in for a treat. There's the usual huge selection of soups, starters, main courses and deserts but in the evenings they also have Teppenyaki so you choose the raw ingredients and they cook it in front of you. If you're still not full up you can indulge in dipping marshmallows in the chocolate fountain....delicious.

For two of us with a bottle of wine and water our total bill was under £35.00. It's best to book as it gets packed.

A great and accessible place to get together with the family for a gut busting meal.

Lots of soft light, great decor and efficient staff. I took my family there for my birthday and had a lovely time. Food portions were generous and well presented. The evening atmosphere is different to the lunch time slot, as more families can convene in the evening, and I really enjoyed myself as did everyone else. You can grab a lunchtime buffet there too, for around £6, and evening set meals for double that.

Ken Hom affiliated, so the food was naturally great tasting. Loved it, but couldn't finish it!

Wing Wah also opened in Nechells.

Ring ahead.
