There are many reasons to moan about the deluge of overpriced, trendy bars into an area, the evaporating of individuality, being replaced with the monoculture of chain bars.

Therefore when you find an independent bar, it is a duty to go inside and furthermore to keep returning to it, and the Foundry is that place. Established by the electronic outfit KLF, the venue has been host to a wide variety of non-commercial, often political events, with it's art gallery space and musical evenings.

The quality of the beer can be ropey on occasions, but the nights of music in there can be real fun and the prices are reasonable.

Really cool open bar serving basic drinks with an outside area which is actually the street give this small bar a cool vibe, as does the completely graffitied walls of the toilets.

No live music but sounds pumping out make this an ideal pit stop before going on to clubs within the east end.
