It is a great way to see a film, the seats are highly raked so you will never get someones head in your way, but its not for someone with vertigo!

seeing films designed for the format is the best way to see it, the picture is very high quality (70 megapixels) as is the sound, even not imax films look impressive.

if it is a blockbuster film they are showing you will have to book in advance people wanting to see the popular showings of batman returns had a months wait!

like most cinemas, snacks are expensive, so sneak in your own!

Great screen, superb sound - the cinema itself is a bit dated, but I suppose you’re not really going for the lobby.

It’s reasonably pricey (even compared to Leicester Square), so probably worth choosing your film wisely.

3D films are great, but even regular blockbusters look out of this world on this screen.

The best in filming experience, if only everyone’s TV’s were as good as at the IMAX!

Watching a film at BFI IMAX is the ultimate experience. The screen is more than 20 metres high (that’s nearly the height of five double-decker buses!) and 26 metres wide.

With a 11,600-watt digital surround-sound system and the most sophisticated motion-picture projection system in the world, viewers literally feel like they are 'in the picture’.

The only other time I’ve been to the Imax was to see a preview of a film, and they very disappointingly just projected the normal-sized film on to the massive screen!

This time though I went to see the Dark Knight in full Massive-O-Rama and boy was I glad chose to pay a little bit extra and wait that week or so longer for the experience.

When the first scene came on the whole audience audibly gasped, it was that good. Whereas at normal cinemas you just sit there and let the film wash over you, here you have to physically turn your head at some moments, just to take the whole thing in.

The sound is very impressive too. My only negative point: the salty popcorn is really really salty!

If you get a chance to see Batman, or the new Harry Potter, or The Watchmen, or anything at all here then you should go, it really is worth it.

I went to IMAX to see Transformers on a big screen, but what I got was not only the greatest visual effects you can imagine, but moreover, the amazing sound!
IMAX experience as it is called is more than just watching the films- it is almost like taking part in the film's plot and being one of the characters. The presentation that is shown just before the main film is started reveals all the expectations- it's witty and it's thrilling.
I am quite sad, however, that not many films are made for this largest screen in Britain- besides Transformers you can see Harry Potter- but they aren't done in the 3D effect. The films that are made are basically all about nature, and the plot is suitable for children also, so you can think that the story is not worth telling.

I don't go out to the cinema as often as I should thanks to the glory of plasma screens. However, there are big screens and then the Imax; it must be about 20m X 20m - it is just immense. I went there this week to see the 3D version of BeoWulf and was dodging arrows in my seat from the start. You even get given the 3D glasses (better than the ones I used to get with my packet of Ricicles). The technology is pretty impressive, but I think the range of films you can actually catch there is fairly limited because they have to be filmed in 3D first. Entirely different to watching a normal film and probably mind blowing for the kids, it's probably best for a family rather than mates night out as a lot of the films I saw advertised there were aimed for kids.
