This place is huge. Starting by the park keepers cottage, with beautifully tended lawn and flower beds, you’ve no idea how wild and woolly the place gets. The lake is enormous, and filled with wild birds. As you progress through the park different gardens and areas open up to you, and it’s really difficult to make a choice as to where to picnic. For the kids there’s a playground round the far side, and a crazy golf. if i remember correctly there’s a few tennis courts as well. There are apartment buildings backing right onto the park, so some people actually live overlooking this place. Thinking about it, there’s a sheltered series of hedges that’s perfect for a little picnic if you’re with someone. Stock up on french bread and cheese from waitrose and head on over!

I worked in Kelsey Park in the 1960s, the only girl there at the time, amongst a diverse bunch of men! It was one of the most interesting places I had ever worked, and I loved the place. I never knew raking up leaves in the autumn could be so entertaining - it was the people in the park that made it so.

I really enjoy coming down to this quaint little park just down from the Natwest in Beckenham high street for a bit of parklife in the summertime. The main focal point is a small lake populated by Canada geese and ducks, running down to a small waterfall and stream (no it’s not for sale). You can probably walk it in about 15 minutes, but what’s the hurry? Loadsa room to find a spot even when its perfectly sunny; I’ve spent some really lazy summer afternoons here relaxing with friends and a picnic without being bothered by anyone else. There’s room for a kickabout or a spot of Frisbee, a couple of tennis courts and a good sized play area etc for the kids to scream and run around in if that’s your thing. There’s usually an ice cream van in the middle, but I doubt there’ll be much need for him in winter.
