Paradise Bar & Restaurant

19 Kilburn Lane, London W10 4AE

Is it a Pub? Is it a Bar? Is it a Restaurant?....no...it's all three. One of the coolest venues in London that has to be seen to be believed!

Can a pub be too perfect? Yes in this case. During the week it’s a scrum at the bar and if there’s a football match on forget about having a quiet conversation about Boris Johnson’s latest blunder. Having said that there’s often good comedy on during the week and at weekends it’s a different story. The beer garden is massive which is a rare treat for this part of London and there’s the usual selection of premium beers including Leffe. The sunday roast is just over a tenner but it’s certainly up to scratch.

Give it a try but check the latest football schedule first…

I’m a fan. After being taken here last night, I’m pleased that there’s a pub near Spitalfields that manages to be a little classier than those on Commercial Street.

Now, some of you may be shocked to hear that I’m not really dirnking beer at the moment (and, to add to the health kick I’m drinking carrot juice as I type this!)... so while I can tell you the water is very nice, I can’t realy tell you much about the booze. Sorry.

But it’s gorgeous in here. It’s got two bars and a few little snugs and it’s the kind of pub that is perfect in Summer as well as Winter. It’s got a covered patio and a garden as well.

The staff were lovely. The menu looks great and they do two courses for £12 which looked pretty tasty. It’s £15 for three courses.

The garden itself is a treasure. And they might have to close it becuase of a housing developement. Even though this was my first visit, I think this would be a huge shame. If you go, and you agree, sign the petition and tell those pesky council people to leave our pubs alone.

I’d give it one more star if it wasn’t quite so crowded and busy, but really it’s such a nice spot I’d feel bad if it wasn’t. We were wandering Spitalfields market on a sunday and kept seeing these signs talking about a good sunday roast. So we followed the signs and ended up at the Water Poet.

The kitchen was hopping as everyone seemed to want a sunday roast. After we were seated and handed beers it was explained to us that the kitchen was out of all the roasts, except for the small chicken (poussin) and that they were closing for 30 minutes to catch up on orders. We were happy to while away some time with our ales. When we did finally get our orders we found the poussin to be full of herb flavor from the cavity stuffed full of fresh herbs. What a yummy surprise. Roasted veggies were crisp on the outside and my soup was tasty.

I think lunch took us a good 3 hours, but we were happy to spend it sitting around drinking and making merry.

Sunday afternoon = three piece jazz band setting the vibe. The tempo doesn’t rise much on any other given day either. Definitely a relaxed bohemian edge to the place, and given its location I’m not surprised to see a mixture of City filers and Nu East Enders relaxing on the sofas in the week. Their tenner plus Sunday lunch is piled with full on carrots and full on load of other veg. and choice of meats. Plenty on the menu for under a tenner and choice for veggies too. Not really a big night out kind of place – but never quiet either. Just the right distance off the beaten track.
