The good reviews below pre-date a major redevelopment. the pub has a new landlord and a much lighter more modern interior which is fine in itself but I preferred the former décor. New staff are VERY slow indeed and big queues are common. I hope they get better before it gets busy. Staff are also remarkably grumpy. The food is fine, but portions are rather small for the price - I got 9 chips with my burger. The location remains this pubs selling point, its wonderful, without the views over the river/common it would not be worth visiting.

It’s a fun place for a great night out with your friends or just for recovering after shopping or sightseeing in Cambridge. Enjoy a drink and good food.

I've never failed to have a good time at the Fort. Its always got something to offer. Its cosy in winter (always have mulled wine!), and has a great garden, front and back for when its a bit warmer.

In the summer, they have live bands, and comedians, and the event of the year on St George's day itself. There's a bouncy castle, inflatable pugle wars and a big fat BBQ. The burgers here are top.

I quite often walk down the side of the River Cam with my dog Rocky and stop of for a nice cold beer at the Fort St george. Being one of the only pubs to allow dogs in its beer Garden.
Its an excellent historic pub surrounded on three sides by lushes green fields, with the river cam and its Punters running directly infront.
All this, and only a few hundred yards from the hustle and bustle of Cambridge City centre. Although I have never tried the food, so its not really fair for me to comment, but I have also never heard a complaint or seen one plate going back that wasn't empty.
This pub certainly has its place in Cambridgem with locals, students and tourisits. It would be a shame for you to miss out.

A perfect pub to have a pint in after a hard outing on the river, or to watch those who are having their hard outings on the river!! Good food mixed with a lively atmosphere and varied beer make this one of the most popular watering holes in cambridge. It is a bit of a walk from the center of town so more suited to those who want a relaxed lunch. The outdoor area is heated so is perfect to enjoy the summer or winter evening

For the past five years on Chritsmas Eve, The Fort has played host to a veritable reunion of school-friends (and wayward teachers) from Cambridge's finest educational institutions: Parkside Community College, Chesterton, Long Rd, and Hills Road Sixth Form Colleges. Not to mention all those primary schools. Entering the Fort on the night before Christmas, is like walking into a time warp for those concerned. Older, weirder, drunker, than ever before.

Otherwise, it's one of the more idyllically-placed of Cambridge's pubs, and should be visited for its fine food, ales, and willow-fringed proximity to the river. And boats. Live-aboards, mostly. Rowers, too. And the occasional pirate.
