9 reviews of Wood Green Central Library in English
I don't agree with the most of the reviews here.
Ok, the library is actually huge, with a lot of computers, magazines, volumes and stuff.
But the study area is not quite at all! On the contrary, it's most of the time full of noisy and crazy people. It's really impossible to get some serious, concentrated study in there. Every time there are plenty of people shouting, or children screaming (not a good idea the children space adjacent to the quiet study area!). Cherry on the cake, toilets are incredibly dirty.
If you go there so as to stay on facebook that's fine, otherwise, if you wanna study, i would recommend to avoid it.
Amazing Central Library. Plenty of pace for serious study. Plenty of rooms for hire. Great staff. welcoming. Even the security guards are friendly. The library is walking distance from Wood Green underground station. Loads of buses. Activities at the library are inspiring
the qype website maybe ok and wood green library info located there; but when qype is visible on the public pc used for accessing the library catalogue there is no obvious route to the catalogue from qype, this is a serious shortcoming of qype and the library entry in qype - there should be a link - aptamilo.
now in attempt to send this comment another shortcoming emerges - only appreciative comment is invited - one is required to designate a star rating - it can't be blank. why no option for raspberries? so translate this 5 star rating into a five star rated raspberry.
now two further absurdities arise:
1. in order to enter a review one is obliged to register as a qype user - no such requirement should be necessary on a public system.
2. in the terms and conditions one is required to comply with german law despite one being in london. no mention of uk law- qype being a german product.
Very big central library with plenty of space for studying and a huge number of internet computers. Easy to spend hours lost in here. You’ll never be able to read any newspapers however as there is a gang of turkish guys who use the paper area as a social club.
Unlike most libraries these days, you can still find a few books in this venue. Even a few useful periodicals.
My complaining aside, this is a wonderful community centre. Always packed with people studying, using the computers or just taking advantage of a free, warm, indoor space.
This library excells as a low cost DVD rental facility. A lot of their titles are art house and interesting and also cater for languages other than english.
If you look at this library from the outside of it, it doesnt look that big but once you get inside, Its huge! There is even a lift to get upstairs. It is Huge!!!!
There is a big study section too. The upstairs is for children and the downstairs is for teenagers and adults. Upstairs there are computers for children and also homework computers.
There are plenty of computers downstairs too.
There are thousands and thousands of books to choose from, and also DVDs, CDs and Videos.
This is a great library and you should definatley become a member.
This library is great! I never actually realised that there was a really big study area with comfy chairs, you can go and plug in your laptop and quietly do your work! you of course don’t have to plug in the laptop you can just get your books out and get on with your work, or read or muse…or as ive seen some people do sleep!
There is a whole childrens area upstairs aswell and they have computers, a good reference section. It’s pretty straight forward getting a library card and they have this slick machine where you can check in and out your books yourself! I recommend the place!
This is a spacious place in nice sorroundings. there are silent areas upstairs and loads of computers for internet access. 1 hour a day is allowed. you need to have a membership card and this can be used in all haringey libraries. There are books, videos, cd's and newspapers available. However, if your looking for something particular it can be difficult and its usually not there!
This library is in the main shopping area in Wood Green and has a huge range of activities for people of all ages, cultures and nationalities and is open seven days a week!!. There is fast, free internet access with plenty of computers available and a very short waiting time considering the numbers of people that use the library on a daily basis. This is down to the efficient system, members get one hour, guests get half an hour.
The staff are very helpful and will assist you to get started on computers and give you information about the most amazing amount of cracking other services such as Learn Direct, Post Natal Salsa for Mums and Babies, Weight Watchers, OlderPeople’s Drop In, Maths and English Tuition for Teenagers and Story Time to mention just a few! There is also a huge study area for studious types and a seating area with broadband access for those with laptops and there are of course, toilets. The best thing is the ‘buzz” the place has. The address is; Wood Green Library, High Road, Wood Green, London N22 6XD.
