I found Ric Stonell Via his Rose and Crown Hairdressing website, http://www.roseandcrownhairdressing.com/ and have been very happy with his services during the last year.

I have been visiting Rick since my office was just round the corner. We have since moved further away (and surrounded by Soho salons) but I - and several colleagues - still head back to the Rose & Crown every time

Great haircut, really good value and Ricks encyclopeadic knowledge of Soho drinking establishments are all reasons to visit. Would recommend to anybody!

I have never been to a salon purely based on online reviews but went to Rose & Crown for the first time last night and absolutely loved it. The highlights that Maya did are fantastic. She listened to what I wanted and offered advice as well. Loved the easy going, relaxed atmosphere of the salon. Will definitely go back. 10/10

Hi Guys,

After I have tried highlighting my hair with Maya, nobody else would do! I also love the way she cuts my hair. Moreover, my hair grow really fast now, so she must know some secret so that customers visit her for haircuts more often :) !

My husband is not a fan of haircuts :(, but if he cuts his hair, he does it with Rick, and that says something about the way Rick cuts hair!

Try them, you would not regret it.

Hi Guys and Gals,
If you have been on the quest of a very good hairdresser in London, go and see Rick.
I am delighted to have followed the advices of previous customers.
I had an OK haircut at another place 2 weeks ago and was desperate to get human again.

I just asked Rick what he thought he would do, giving him directions like I don’t like it too trendy, but practical, sleek, but also low maintenance etc.
Bang on, and he is also very nice, chatty but not OTT a real craftsman.

Warmly recommend Rose and Crown and certainly will visit again.

The osteopath here is very good, colleagues say. I went for a haircut and colour and will definitely go back before the Christmas party.

Headaches for 2 weeks…walked from the Strand to see Phil the osteopath at the hairdressers based behind The Lamb and Flag pub. Haven’t got one now!

I’m in a ballet production in Covent Garden and have just found my favourite osteopath! I used to go and see Phil when he was a student osteopath. Nice…

Rick Stonell has been doing my hair for many years now - many styles (long, short, curly), many colours (brunette, red blonde). How does he manage this you might ask? Well… Rick himself has style; he can look at you, your face and your hair and will give you a do that works for you and works for him. AND if you have been going as long as I have you can work together. I might be an old bird (50 IS the new 30!) but he still manages to keep me looking young and stylish with a cracking hair do and colour to match.

A fantastic, independent hairdressers in Covent Garden that do both men and women’s cuts. The place is very cool (they have mini art exhibitions there!) and the two guys who run the place are brilliant.

They get extra points for helping out a Qype user after she had a bit of a hair nightmare at the hands of one of the big salon chains.

See here for more details of how they came to the rescue:

And here’s me getting my hair cut in 8 seconds…they’re that quick!

I’ve been going to Rick for some time, both here and in his other basement premises. This new place is certainly better but the easy, non-salon, relaxed atmosphere is the same as is his banter (no mention of holidays). Oh and he’s a top barber/ hairdresser which can’t hurt. Rick’s big skill, however, is his now famous wide appeal: media types; bankers; moneyed-russians; fashionistas; me; my wife and our children. Everybody looks comfortable in the chair and under scissors. Say hi from me.

Went here today after reading of others’ good experiences. Popped my head in and asked if I needed an appointment, 5 minutes later, I was in the chair. Rick spent a good amount of time saying what was wrong and what needed doing. Emerged half an hour later happy with the result - enough said really! Rick said that he’d had quite a lot of interest through Qype which was obviously paying dividends.
One other point - it can be hard to find through Google Maps, etc. - halfway between Leicester Square and Covent Garden Tube stations, in a road to the side of Stanford’s travel shop. Easy peasy!

Went here the other day looking rather like Wurzle Gumage’s younger (prettier) sister, which is not good. The task of fixing it was left to Mya and Rick. firstly rick gave me a new do which is fab, then it was up to mya to colour my hair. considering the state it was in i had a feeling it may go green but the coulour turned out great. no more frazzled hair and i left the salon a truly happy customer!!!

Ordinarily i’m a £7 short back and sides man. If you’ve read any of my other hairdresser reviews you’ll know that i have very happy hair and that i’ve struggled to find a decent barber in Germany. Well, I will no longer be getting my haircut in Germany because i have found my perfect barber in Covent Garden. The Rose and Crown must be one of the best hairdressers in London. Fantastic value, very personal treatment and excellent prices. Cheers Rick. I’ll definitely be coming back.

Cracking hair salon which I like a lot because it sounds like a pub. Rik is a fascinating character who has mated around with many of Manchester’s musical heros, and knows everyone in Soho. There’s a fish tank with 2 fish, decent tunes on the sound system, and the results aren’t half bad either. Great stuff.

Yes this is a brilliant hairdressers. What is unbelievable too is that they have an osteopath downstairs who took half of my back pain away in 30 minutes.

A long while ago I used to go to one of the chain stores on the high street to get my hair cut. The hair cuts I got were, well, okay I suppose, but I always had to think to myself “It’ll be alright in a few weeks time.” Generally speaking they were never really alright in a few weeks time.

Then one day after I’d got my hair cut at one of those places that’ll remain nameless (ahem Supercuts ahem) I needed to get some hair stuff and stumbled across these fine gentlemen. Rick could have quite happily pocketed my money and thought no more about it but he suggested that I let him sort my hair out.

I’ve never looked back.

Rick cuts my hair so that I feel good about it after. There’s no fuss and he’ll talk to you about the style you’re after and what’ll work and what won’t. He, and Chris, are the archetypal good blokes. Even though I don’t live in London full time now I never get my hair cut anywhere else and that should tell you all you need to know.

Oh that and the fact they have some great vintage movie posters.

Been having my hair cut and coloured by Rick for about 10 years. Always feel and look great afterwards, and have a really chilled out time while there.

After the debacle that was my experience of getting my hair callously lopped off at the Toni & Guy academy, my fairy-godmother in the form of Rick from the Rose and Crown appeared to make sure I would get to the ball - and not in the guise of an ugly sister - as he very kindly offered to fix my hair for free.

I arrived in my pumpkin carriage (better known as the Northern Line) and strolled down a very busy Long Acre which was jam packed with Christmas shoppers and tourists and found refuge from the madness in Rose Street. A quaint, quiet wee street with a slight Dickensian air to it.

The small, independently run salon was a breath of fresh air from the faceless anonymity of the big chain salons I’ve patronised in the past. It was obvious from the outset that Rick knows about hair and he took a good look at mine and had good chat with me before whipping out the scissors.

The result is that I’m now delighted that my hair no longer makes me look like Tina Turner circa 1990 and is very pretty, and I’m ever so pleased. Moreover I feel confident that should I ever have any further hair disasters or even small queries; I know exactly where to go.

I will certainly be recommending the Rose & Crown to whomever shall listen and I will definitely be returning – whether for a new do, colour, manicure or massage (yes, they do all that in one cosy wee place! Not in the same room, there are different rooms, obviously.)

Staunchly recommended for those who find it difficult to trust hairdressers and for any hair catastrophes – the personal touch here is hugely reassuring.
