Nipped in here for a quick pint with a friend
Pint was OK, location was fine, it’s a Youngs pub so you know pretty much what you will be getting before you step in. Staff are too busy really to chat, but seem to know what they are doing.

Really enjoyed this pub. Covent gardens was as full as ever so we decided to try something new.. Food was great and the beer flowed a bit to freely :) One small negative the price you pay.. But then again you are in London ..

The first impression I got as I walked in was that it is a bar rather than a pub because of the funky interior design. However, there are no cocktails on the menu, so definitely a pub (which was confirmed by the fact that there was no soap in the bathroom).
A Rekorderlig cider is £4.95 which is crazy, moreover they tried to give me Kopparberg instead.

The renovations have really spoiled this pub. Food and drink are now much more expensive here than a year ago. Great location and staff are still friendly.

Hmm. I’m in a bit of a dilemma here. On the one hand, this is a decent real-ale venue (owned by Youngs); on the other, they’ve undertaken a major refurbishment which has stripped out all the character from this famous pub, which was renowned as a bastion of real ale in the days when it seemed that keg might rule the world.
The pub itself is located just opposite Covent Garden Opera House, on a stretch of road known for its French restaurants. The exterior looks traditional enough, but the interior is a modern confection in dark wood, with brown leather sofas, tall square stools, feature wallpaper and painted walls delivering a clean, modern feel: you get the picture. It’s not objectionable at all, just a bit characterless and anonymous. It now seems to appeal to a modern, young, slightly trendy crowd, with the odd tourist thrown in. As well as the large downstairs bar, there’s an eating area upstairs (which I’ve not used).
The beer is its salvation, if you like Young’s beers. They have Ordinary (bitter), Special, Winter Warmer and Bombardier on at the moment: if you like dark, rich beers but don’t like stout, try the Winter Warmer. You may be hooked. Be warned that it has Covent Garden prices: Winter Warmer is £3.50 a pint, Bombardier £3.40. Ouch.
The food is the standard modern pub range: perfectly OK but, again, nothing memorable. So, overall, you could do an awful lot worse if you are in the area, but it’s not somewhere I’d travel to these days.

THE MARQUESS OF ANGELSEY located in Bow is spread over two floors and very recently has undergone a long needed refurbishment. For a long while it has been a quality traditional pub that always dished out great food, drinks and service.
Conveniently located on the corner of Bow Street and Russell Street, close to many theatres it is a perfect magnet to attract theatre audiences to their bar and dining quarters upstairs, and this venue looks very impressive and tastes even better.
We warmed up with a bottle of White French wine and Prosecco:-tasty platter of nibbles consisting of a very generous helping of Salt and Pepper Squid dish served with a lightly barely there crumbs. It was a welcome change from the heavy variety you often find in pubs who don't spend a lot of time on food preparation. The house's thick handcut chips made from fresh Potato were perfect for scooping up the Tomato and Mayonnaise Dips whilst downing pints of Young's finest Ales- a Peroni or a Leffe.
But if you have panchant for White Wine we really truley recommend the Terramater Vineyard Reserve Sauvignon Blanc from Chile-it was so good we did not stop at the one bottle.
The Rib-Eye Steak came in a good size and was grilled exactly the way I like it accompanied by a delicious, aromatic Pepper sauce. The Fish-Cakes and Beef-Burgers got an A plus. For the dessert the four of us rated the Apple Crumble as very high because the combination more Apple and less crumble tasted good as did the Chocolate Brownie which was rich and delicious.
