If you’re looking for a relaxing time- get a guide to punt for you!! There are plenty of sales people walking up and down kings street, st johns street and bridge street, so grab one and barter to get the best deal!
HOWEVER… If you’re feeling adventurous… Try it yourself!! Its fantastic fun, take a bottle of wine for a great afternoon out!
Also, look out for the special events - i.e ghost punts, they’re great fun and a little different!

Whether you live in Cambridge, or whether your a tourist; punting is a must. You can have a guided punting tour, or hire your own punt. Although some words of warning if you hire your own punt, try not to be drunk, be carefull of the many bridges (they sneak up on you), when moving the pole thingy around, be carefull not to hit people sitting alongside the river.
It really is an awesome experience, just remember its not bumper cars and you do have to at least try not to crash into people.

Punting is one of the 'must do's' in Cambridge. You can choose from a meandering trip along the backs to see in colleges from a whole new perspective with a guide. The guides all have great knowledge of this history of the different colleges (always entertaining even if only loosely based on truth!!). If you are feeling adventrous and have some time to spare then 'self-punting' is definatly the way to go, just make sure you do it in the correct Cambridge way (by standing on the back), if in doubt watch how students and guides are doing it, and not the Oxford way by standing in the middle and going nowhere!!!!!
If you have the whole day to yourself then it is wothwhile punting over the 'rollers' and down to granchester where there is a great tea room with history a-plenty for you.

Punting in Cambridge is an amazing experience. Be sure to take a few beers to take in the sights with. Most trips run for about an hour and you shouldn't pay more than £10 per person. A lot of Cambridge students are guides and are extremly good value with their local knowedge and banter. Punts are available for personal hire but I wouldn't reccomend it for first timers! I have seen some disaster cases in my time. Don't forget your camera.
