I have to agree with andrew on this one, this is the BEST kebab place in oxford… and not just for the kebabs. On many a lonely monday or friday evening when i was trudging back from town to cowley i would stop and treat myself to a moderately greasy but extremely fulfilling kebab from here - they are very good in comparison to most.
And the chips are amazing. They are good hearty HOT chips and dont taste like they are dripping in oil. Crispy on the outside soft in the middle. Cant believe im saying this about a kebab van lol!
This kebab van almost always has a small que at about 2am and its easy to see why. Just because were drunk doesnt mean we dont know a good kebab from a bad one!

I can't believe Ali's is on here! This was MY FAVOURITE kebab van in Oxford when i was a student. Perfect for when you were stumbling back a 3am on a Monday night (yes - Monday is the big student night in Oxford). Excellent chips and cheese (no gravy i'm afraid) and decent kebabs. Service was always quick and friendly. I'm glad Ali is still keepin' it real on the streets of Oxford!

Yes, I am reviewing a kebab van. As a student city, Oxford is full of these seemingly dubious take-away vans, but amongst the grease and fat, there are some hidden delights. Don't take me wrongly, Ali's is hardly a health food mecca, but the food is a cut above the average kebab, the portions are very generous and the service is incredibly friendly. You can find everyone queuing up here each night, from businessmen in suits, to traffic wardens, to students in pyjamas and everyone is greeted with a smile, and many by name - Ali's has an unbelievable following with a huge number of regulars. The cheesy chips cannoy be beaten and ketchup is free and generously poured on. There are drinks and chocolate bars as well, and the food is Halal.
