What a nice venue this one, it's just loads of fun going there, the place is totally different then your usual club, the arches make it a different place and much more attractive than your average club. I've been to this place several times now and every time I really enjoy myself.

This was one of the best nights ive ever had out. It was really random as well because I didnt even want to go anywhere! There was an event where all the people in the club built a town together and the club had cardboard, paint etc to decorate. We built a fire station and at the end there was a street party and we celebrated and the 'town' had its own radio station!!! Totally brill night out!

Ever looked at that dungeon-like door in London Bridge Station and wondered 'what the hell is that?' It's Shunt Lounge. Walk past it on a Friday evening and you'll see a queue of people lining up outside it waiting to walk through the velvet-adorned tunnels which open out into a CAVERNOUS space inside. With areas to chill, areas to dance and areas to drink it's a great place for a chill out night but beware - its absolutely massive inside so make sure you don't lose your mates!

Shunt is awesome, I went on what was supposed to be the last night at this venue and just had a great night out. As everyone thought it was shutting down the queue was insane - we waited for 3 hours to get in, but there was a good atmosphere and everyone was chatting to each other, getting drinks from local shops and generally starting the party in the queue. When we got inside they had a swimming pool covered in silver balloons and where punting people across it to get into the venue. A magical start to a great night out.

Review of Shunt Lounge from 10 November 2010
(updated on 18 November 2010 )

Shunt is now primarily an arts based venue rather than a bar / club. It has an ever changing program so it is advisable to check out what’s on before venturing down there, however having said that the programming is so widely varied that you are likely to find something of interest on any given night.

The venue itself is HUGE, comprising a number of high ceilinged interlinked arches underneath London Bridge Station. In fact the entrance to the premises is actually inside London Bridge Station vaults (so it’s very easy to get to!) As with ALL arch venues, expect to smell damp throughout. Shunt also suffers from moss adorned ‘sweating’ walls!

The first time you visit the place it is quite easy to get lost in - One problem that needs rectifying is that areas that do not have an installation or performance going on in them don’t have barriers separating them from the areas of the venue that are in use – so if you wonder around and are slightly inebriated you could easily find yourself taking a wrong turn into a dark arch!

The venue is EXCEPTIONALLY ruff and ready, but that adds to its charm. Relaxing while having a candlelit drink amongst an abundance of creativity in a venue that reeks of Dickensian London is quite unique! It’s not a modernist, chic venue, and those who criticise it because of this are missing the point somewhat. The place has atmosphere in abundance.

The staff are exceptionally friendly too, from those on the door, to the bar staff, to the management. It’s not the sort of place I'd spend all night in as it falls somewhere between being a bar in its own right, a club, an arts venue and a theatre, but it is great place to spend a few hours in.

Every time I’ve gone there there’s been something interesting going on, whether it’s to my particular taste or not, and I think it’s a great venue to ‘dip into’ now and again.

Definitely recommended.

EDIT - My bad, SHUNT London Bridge Vaults HAS now shut, although SHUNT Theatre in Bermondsey Street is still going strong. SHUNT London Bridge had been rumoured to close last year, but was still open until my last visit early this year - but it is now definitely shut. Sorry all!

I love, love, love this place. Cavernous vaults under London Bridge Station, with ever-changing art installations, talks on any subject from science to ... well, you think of something, they've probably done it! Live bands, a little bowling alley by the entrance. climbing areas, a seriously cheap bar (I think the bottle of wine was about a tenner); performance art, and lots of fabulous dark spaces lit only by candles.

I really love Shunt; it is THE most original place I have ever been in London; and I am really disappointed that it is going to be closed. (I’m not sure whether it will open again or not?)
The first time I went there I was very pleasantly surprised; I never thought I could see a place as amusing as this with some very innovative young people and some good performances, in the most unlikely place ever, in London. Most of the other places you can go are pretty standard repetitive gaudy places; even those local places which are not branches of huge chains, are getting more similar to standard chain clubs/pubs/theatres and are losing their originality.
I think they have made the smartest use of the place and I hope it just continues to work and accommodate young innovative artists and get better and better in terms of performances every day.

Alas - it will not return to the same location, as all the arches under the station - including those that were occupied by Shunt - are going to be destroyed by Network Rail as part of the station refurbishment - a bit of architectural vandalism if you ask me.

Word has it that the Shunters are looking for a new venue though... so keep your eyes peeled.

I was rather disappointed. I was there for the first time last Saturday (Oct 26 2009) and all of my more regular friends told me repeatedly throughout the night that it was one of the poorest Shunt nights they had experienced. No clear theme, you entered to the sight of black bin bags hung up by rope (body bags), a noose, a wicked looking butcher's hook... a haunted house?

The 2 friends I had brought along were as baffled as I was. Music was very substandard indie for a good few hours, with some so so acoustic act in one of the rooms, some nude woman getting painted (0 impressions), a very uninspiring piece of performance art...

While I appreciated the novelty of the place and decent prices, first impressions were terrible, it seemed to be a 'Oh, we've run out of ideas' night. Perhaps I will give it another shot based on the other fascinating sounding nights I've heard/read about, but as it stands, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

So.. the first time and only time I’ve been I was pleasantly surprised.
It was like being in Wonderland, the tunnel is an eternity to get through- but this is the beauty of it. You hear far off electronic beats, electric guitars, laughter, oh yes and I musn’t forget to mention the water you see running down the walls with the verdure of moss!

It’s a cool place- highly recommended if you like techno/ minimal/electronic rhythms.
