I have been visiting Falko since he opened and have not been disappointed. Carrot cake, baked cheesecake, poppyseed cheesecake, you name it, he makes it, and it’s gorgeous!

Falko makes challah bread, especially for the Jewish community, that can be bought on a Thursday or Friday (if you’re quick!), and it is worth the trip.

Also, the cheese tongues are one of the best things ever.

Falko's bakery has been in Bruntsfield for a couple of years now and has really become part of Edinburgh. The German master baker, Falko Burkert, bakes an astounding range of delicious cakes and will also bake cakes to order, to any specification and for any occasion. His creations truly are a work of art and are a pleasure to look at, briefly, before you can't help yourself any longer and devour.

Falko's has a stall at the Farmers market every weekend and is regularly sold out within hours. He has won 'stall holder of the year' at least once and has many other awards and recognitions since arriving.

Falko's bakes a range of German breads daily. This bread is not an addition to a meal but with some good butter can be a meal in itself. The pretzel or laugenzunge make a great snack for lunch and priced at £1 are very reasonable.
Bread prices are the same across the board with a 500g loaf for £1.90 or a 1kg loaf for £3.90. These prices have not changed since Falko opened his doors.

There is a small space to sit if you have time to soak up the atmosphere but the coffee is disappointing.

Danger of addiction! Never go hungry to Falko’s or you will spend a fortune there. Once you enter the shop you get the feeling that you have to taste everything. Falko’s Konditorei is an El Dorado for all fanciers of German pastries and for those who want to acquire a taste for it. From lusty specialist breads to delicious home-made cakes and the famous German “Brezel” every foodie gets what they are seeking here. There is only one deficit. Especially at the weekend, you should go there very early to get the full choice because after midday most of their delicacies have already been sold. So, I would advise: have your breakfast at Falko’s. Coffee and a lot of different German “Schmankerl” are provided!

My heart leapt with joy when I first passed Falko after its opening in Bruntsfield - a little bakery with bretzls hanging on strings outside - the real thing! Bretzl bread - fresh and big and German! And the taste definitely delivers on the promise. As do the other fine loaves on sale - good wholesome breads, baked fresh in-shop by bakers in proper whites and crazy hats. Careful though; there are also some marvelous cakes to be had, including baked cheesecake ... For a small establishment with an ancient till that has to be hand-rung by the friendly staff, Falko certainly achieves its title: Konditormeister!
