Wai Yee Hong

First was introduced to the chinese supur market about ten years ago when a friend took me to buy a wok so that he could teach me how to cook a good stir fry. I’ve since been going back regularly as the food is like nowhere else that I know in Bristol and at such a low price. It’s as cheap as wholesale trade prices. The staff are very friendly and helpful and can always point you in the right direction.

Used to shop here when it was situated in Montpelier. Love the new shop, a lot, lot bigger. Staff very friendly, amazing selection of food, including frozen. Curry paste is amazing! Highly recommended and nice now its more easily accessible to the masses.

they provide lovely Chinese food that me and my boyfriend always thoroughly enjoy! their new restraunt is very posh and lovely for fine dinning. highly recommended.

Great place, if you are Chinese- Cantonese I might add. The supermarket is well stocked and is quite busy. The location is next to ikea, which is where we go first then head over here. The food is authentic and freshly prepared. The seating is also quite nicely presented. Worth a try if you are willing to spend money.

The Eastgate centre, built on the site of Eastville market, has been open about three months. It's a fabulous building - light, modern and airy and houses the Wai Yee Hong supermarket; a high ceiling-ed emporium of all foods Chinese and East Asian. They have the biggest selection of soy sauces I've ever seen, sesame oils, cooking wine, sauces & marinades, crackers, herbs & spices, flavourings, teas, frozen goods, tinned goods and also a selection of cooking utensils and woks. The aisles are well spaced and it's great for browsing.

This is the newest addition to the Eastville area...a huge Chinese supermarket with a restaurant above. I've not actually visited the restaurant but my relatives tell me it's very good.

The supermarket itself is far superior to Kin Yip Hon in Broadmead. First of all it's massive for an oriental supermarket and it has a great selection of stuff. It has utensils, dried food, refrigerated food, frozen food, fresh food, drinks and snacks. Everything is laid out really well and the aisles are well spaced so you can browse at ease (the shop in town always seemed too crammed in to me).

If you like Chinese food it is definitely worth a look. It might be difficult if you're English finding things you want because you can't always tell what things are by looking at them (although most things do have English writing on them) but having Chinese relatives I know what I'm looking for and can find it quite easily.
