Hotel Smokies Park

Stayed here last week and was not impressed. There are signs that the hotel is not being well maintained - the showers in the fitness area were not working and the one in our room was leaking badly. Somewhat tatty in a few places. Room was clean enough and the staff were friendly. Breakfast was a disappointment - fruit bowls had not been replenished, the coffee was poor and the scrambled eggs were truly atrocious. Come on, how hard is to make fresh scrambled eggs? These had clearly been sitting for ages, were dry and crumbly and tasted of nothing. Poor effort!

Smokies, as it is locally known, is a great place to go for a drink, bar snack and to relax.
The bar area is peaceful and spacious, complete with plush sofas and tv’s., There is a selection of national papers available every day, it’s nice to go in and relax, reading the paper with a drink.
They have a cash machine and you can pay by switch - which is rare in this area!
The bar food is excellent - especially the sandwiches which are triple deckers served with fresh salad and crisps - 1 is enough between 2 but they are really excellent sandwiches. The chips are also good.
Service is sporadic - the bar isn’t always manned, but there is a phone on the bar which you can use to get quick service.
The toilets are always spotless.
This bar is open all night.

I recently attended a wedding at Smokies, and was very impressed. The hotel was an impressive 50 plus ensuite rooms and the resturant is fab, the food is beautifully cooked and well presented. They have a nightclub here also, what more could you want if you require a hotel and fancy a boogie and a good meal when Smokies is the place to go.
