My boyfriend and I first visited this pub because of an internet search. We decided to see if there were any pubs we didn't know of in our area and low and behold The Phoenix came up on our screens. We visited mainly because of an infamous member of staff who seemed to have pissed off numerous internet users with their service.

However, I am glad to say, the said staff member clearly no longer works there. This is a great and friendly pub with an unusual lay out. There's an upstairs mezzanine area with sofas, a large lounge style area, and a smaller dining area with long Medieval feast style tables, and those eponymous church chairs that are in all pubs these days.

This is a gastropub, though the quality of the food can be quite variable. They do some awesome salads in the summer, and great sandwiches, but the roasts often disappoint. The snack range is excellent, with everyone's favourite wasabi peas on offer.

I've done the quiz here which was highly enjoyable, but technical problems often drag the night out. All in all a fun railway pub.
