Good pub, very nice and I like the railway clock. The top floor section is really nice for private functions and the fact that it’s not far to the station helps a lot! The snack type foods are normally good and it’s gastro pub prices, but not bad for a quick after work drink.

This is my favourite pub in the area. It can be found right next to Denmark Hill station, so that from the inside you can watch people walking to and from the station platforms. The design of the place is brilliant, with a huge dramatic station clock hanging from the middle of the ceiling and lots of sturdy tables and comfy sofas. The seating is well-spaced, including a balcony area that overhangs the rest of the pub and can be hired for free for personal parties and such. The menu is great and alongside traditional 'pub food’ options there are some interesting, less obvious options. Smashing.

My boyfriend and I first visited this pub because of an internet search. We decided to see if there were any pubs we didn't know of in our area and low and behold The Phoenix came up on our screens. We visited mainly because of an infamous member of staff who seemed to have pissed off numerous internet users with their service.

However, I am glad to say, the said staff member clearly no longer works there. This is a great and friendly pub with an unusual lay out. There's an upstairs mezzanine area with sofas, a large lounge style area, and a smaller dining area with long Medieval feast style tables, and those eponymous church chairs that are in all pubs these days.

This is a gastropub, though the quality of the food can be quite variable. They do some awesome salads in the summer, and great sandwiches, but the roasts often disappoint. The snack range is excellent, with everyone's favourite wasabi peas on offer.

I've done the quiz here which was highly enjoyable, but technical problems often drag the night out. All in all a fun railway pub.
