I went to Casa Tapas with my boyfriend for an anniversary meal about a month ago.
We hovered in the entrance waiting to be seated and after a minute or two a grumpy man behind the bar silently took us to a table. The waiter brought over some menus and we asked for recommendations, they have quite a large, varied menu. When i asked what soft drinks they stock i was only offered 3, which is a bit limiting for those driving or choosing not to drink.
We ordered 8 dished between 2 us, i would highly recommend the choritzo, calamari and paella. Some of the portions were a bit small but food wise, the best quality tapas i’ve had in a while.
When the waiter cleared our plates he offered us a doggy bag!! Bit of a strange choice in music but overall a cosy restaurant with romantic lighting. Sadly, felt a bit ignored and we weren’t offered a dessert menu or any further drinks.
Food was lovely, sadly the hospitality was not.
Food was really nice but the service was terrible. Ignored by two people when we first walked in, miserable guy behind the counter eventually sat us down; ordering and food delivery was fine but took too long to come to take the order; it was a bit slow to come although to be fair it was busy; didn’t get offered the desert menu or any further drinks despite sitting there for another 20 minutes. Wouldn’t go back and wouldn’t reccomend it. Service can make or break a restaurant!
A nice independent tapas bar which has been around for some time. There is a range of food on offer which is tasty but sometimes can be quite greasy. The service is slow. It is a intimate restaurant which can get very busy.
This is a great little Tapas restaurant in Didsbury. It’s small and intimate, perhaps a little overcrowded at times, but nonetheless a cosy and welcoming venue.
You can choose from a number of set Tapas menus or choose your own dishes from a large selection. I can highly recommend the Chorizo, Champiniones Al Ajillo and Queso Manchego, which is served with fresh tomato and olive oil. I haven’t tried the Paellas but from what I’ve seen they certainly look tasty.
As you would expect there’s a good wine list with a number of Cavas and wines from Spain, Italy and Chile. You can also order jugs of Sangria and Spanish and Italian lager.
With its intimate setting and candlelit tables, this is perfect for a romantic meal.
The food here is pretty good and it always seems to be busy, so the atmosphere is great too. On the first occasion I went with friends we ordered everything off the tapas menu and there was so much food we couldn't fit it on the table! I don't go too often as I think it's actually quite expensive in the evenings, but they do tend to do discounts for students etc and the last time I went they were doing a special lunch deal for £5, which was great value for money.
Nice fresh tapas, much better than the nearby La Tasca, & a nice cosy atmosphere
Casa Tapas Is one of the best spanish food you can get in Manchester, the place is really cozzy and the food is perfect, everytime I go there with my boyfriend we order one of the Set Menus, it is perfect, and great value for money also also the paella is always include on the set menus!!! The location is great and they have spanich music on the all Time!!! I love trying to sing along!!!!
The sangria, spanish drink, is the best and a “jug” is everything you need during your meal!!!!
Casa Tapas is pretty lame as Spanish restaurants go. The food is passable but portions are small and the service is awful - we had to wait an age to be served, then to get our food and then to get the bill!
A great introduction of tapas food. ambient and chilled, best to book though, especially the cosy tables at the back. The patatas bravas is the best this side of Barcelona. Reasonable prices considering the location.
Fantastic for valentines and WAY better than the La Tasca chain! Bit tightly enclosed though and you will probably need to make reservations!
ahhhhhhhh one of the best, especially in the summer with the doors flung wide open. Plenty of choice, speedy service. Maybe a bit cramped? Still, great fun
Casa Tapas is an lovely little Spanish restaurant in a prime position in Didsbury village. The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming, and the low-level lighting gives a wonderful feeling of intimacy.
The menu is large and well varied, from tapas staples such as the piquant patatas bravas, meatballs and big bowls of olives, to more substantial paella dishes. Last time we visited, our meal included a chicken kebab in a spicy tomato sauce, some wonderfully gooey deep fried mozzarella and a plate of melon with serrano ham (which tastes suspiciously like parma ham, but I digress) which balanced the meal out well and took the edge off some of the spicier sauces.
The staff are pleasant and attentive, they have managed to cram quite a lot of tables into a fairly small space but you can’t blame it for being successful, coz it’s very good! If you’re there for a quick bite, or a romantic meal with your partner, or in a big group for a party, this place is ideal. Highly recommended….
Fine Spanish restaurant in the skull end of Didsbury. Romantic faced and dimly presented, it draws the eyes and stomach towards it’s heart as trouble does to Amy Winehouse. Indeed the house wine I shared with myself (the missus is tea total) perfectly accompanied the calamares fritos (squid rings) and seafood paella. I’m not so sure La Tasca deserves the slating it’s getting here - I’ve never had a bad experience there (quite the opposite - fantastic staff, certainly the Deansgate branch) and it too started off as an independent Spanish tapas bar before branching out (as Casa Tapas is). On the contrary I’ve had a pretty dire outing at Casa Tapas, sultry staff, beer running out on tap, and a fair amount of items off the menu. I left feeling as though the place were run by 11 year old school kids as a home economics project. Perhaps they were and I was unbeknownst to me, subjected to a channel 4 reality show? I’d never saw it aired so perhaps it didn’t quite cut it.
I’m off to Spain in August so perhaps I’ll return one more time (if I can’t make it to the superb El Rincon in town) to see if they’ve improved. It’s a shame the service was poor (and I’m really not one to complain, only when it’s absurdly awful) as the food and surrounds were pleasantly delectable.
Casa Tapas is the place I turn to when you’ve one of those situations where there’s a group of you and no one can agree where to go to eat, as the extensive menu’s got something for everyone. It’s just as ideal for a nice meal for two that isn’t going to leave you broke for the rest of the month! The value for money is outstanding, the food’s tasty and washed down with a jug or 3 of sangria, on a warm day when the folding doors are open, you could be on you’re holiday in Spain all over again. The atmosphere at the weekend’s is fantastic and adds to the rustic charm of this little place. It can just be a bit hard to get the bill when it’s really busy.
The other place across the way isn’t worth mentioning in comparision.
Capa Tapas is a Spanish Resturant situated in Didsbury Manchester. A cosy and Rustic Resturant oozing a fantastic Spanish theme to it, always busy which speaks for itself the food is really nice and is always presented well, slightly expensive but well worth the money if you really enjoy tapas. I would say you would be expected to pay £20 for a few decent sized Tapas and large glass of wine and a basket of bread.
There are two Tapas places in Didsbury, the bland chain venue which shall not be named and this little independent gem.
I love it at Casa Tapas, the Sangria is delicious, menu is vast, prices are great and ambiance is even better. I’ve been here with both the boyfriend and a group of my girl mates and had a great time on all occasions.
On a Fri/Sat night it can get quite noisy and lively with music playing, sometimes live Salsa and a lot of large parties. On a weekday evening it’s quieter, and the lunch time deals on Saturdays and Sundays are great value.
Well recommended.
If you love tapas, and a lively restaurant atmosphere, then Casa Tapas is your next destination of choice. Located in the buzzing centre of Didsbury village, this two-level restaurant is popular with couples, families and groups.
The candlelit atmosphere, charismatic Spanish waiters and up-tempo music certainly creates a true European ambience.
Food wise there is a good variety of dishes, everything from red-hot patatas bravas to steaming seafood paella. Vegetarians are well catered for. Definitely recommended for a fun food-and-drink night out. Alternatively, handy for a quick light bite, before hitting Didsbury's bars and clubs.
