It does what is says on the tin – the clue is in the name. If you want a good steak, you could do a lot worse than eat here. My partner and I have been eating here for five years or so, off and on and have never had a bad steak. The staff are always friendly and attentive and the starters are tasty. The menu is not wide and varied but neither is the menu in any other steak restaurant. You can take your own wine and the corkage is very cheap, the house wines are also very reasonable. The atmosphere is friendly and relaxed and you don’t have to dress up to eat here.
Over the last 3 years myself and work colleagues have been going to the buffalo grill (chapel street originally but stockbridge more recently) and of the 15 or so times we’ve been and more seperately I’ve yet to be disappointed. The menu is certainly tailored to meat and american dishes but they do them so well! The interior is quaint and more cramped in the chapel street branch, but I find it comfortable for a friendly evening out, I would say its not a dress fancy place. The bonus of being able to take your own wine or beer to drink makes it that little better too.
The level of service we’ve received on EVERY single occasion we’ve been makes it confusing to read some of these reviews but I suppose it happens occasionally but I for one will be returning very soon (my repeated menu choice; BBQ ribs for starter, chicken with chorizo and jalapeno/tomato sauce for main, truly great!)
On a final note, I took my parents there a short time ago and my mum is a right pain when it comes to eating out as she cooks well herself. She had the ribeye steak and said it was the best she’d had outside of travelling around France, sounds like a strange comment but it’s a rare blessing!

Husband’s favourite so have to be careful about what I say. Staff are really good and attentive but, and there should be a but, menu has alot to be desired. Its ok for the first few visits but does become somewhat dull after that. I know that the name should say it all but a little imagination can go along way.

If you are looking to go out for a good steak you have got to visit Buffalo Grill! I have been here a few times and never had bad food or service. It is quite small and can get cramped when its full, but it is a good atmosphere and worth waiting for a table.

A popular venue but in all honesty a pretty average dining experience of late.
Over a period of more than 5 years, I have given this place chance after chance, in an attempt to find a return to previous form (the highs of 4 and more years ago). Unfortunately, it’s been mostly no more than average over that latter period.
Even recently there have been some delights (in both the often friendly, cheerful staff and the dishes which can be cooked and presented well) but there have also been some pretty dismal efforts too. Unbelievably for this type of restaurant, the quality of steaks can be very disappointing. Sometimes gristly, sometimes too thin, sometimes over/under cooked but overall not nearly consistent enough.
Starters tend to be reliable and tasty.
Seating can make a big difference to your dining experience. Avoid tables anywhere near the door. In an effort to cram in as many customers as possible, there are usually tables directly in front of the doors and immediately to either side. As the interior is so crammed, those waiting to be seated often spill out into the street through open doors, leaving those dining nearby to suffer the usual cold draughts of an Edinburgh evening.
Popularity can make bookings difficult but if you find this is the case, don’t; simply book a table at any number of other worthy restaurants in the city. If you want to stay fairly local and don’t mind a change in cuisine, there is a Pizza Express a couple of hundred meters towards town. There is a fabulous Indian restaurant (Far Pavilions) about half a mile towards the Forth Bridge. Great, modern Italian food can be found at Zanzero (400m towards town.)
Finally, if you don’t go expecting much and are simply eating en-route to your night out, you might strike lucky and have a nice time. If you’re planning on making your food the focus of your evening, do yourself a favour and find somewhere better. There are plenty.

Great beer - and the staff are all really friendly and helpful. They always have a good selection of Guest Ales and they are more than happy for you to have a wee taster before buying!
Nice friendly atmosphere.

this place was pretty good, food was delicious, cheap corkage, reaosnable service. My only complaint was that I was a little miffed when I asked for mayonaise for my chips and was brought sour cream- I know it’s white, but they’re really not the same thing. Very cheap dinner out, and great chicken wings and steak. Defintiely worth a visit, but don’t go with expectations of fine dining.

Haven’t really noticed much of a change since the change of ownership. I was really diappointed when I heard it was changing hands, but I’m happy to say none of the changes have been to drastic. Its got a good selection of real ales which is a must for any pub that I visit, also once inside its got a good traditional pub feel about it.

Ate here, have to say very good food. We arrived 15 minutes before our booking and our table was ready. Prompt service soon had drinks to the table and very soon after our order was taken.
I had the soup of the day and it was scrumtios, compliments to chef as not often I say that soup is good, come from a cooking family. My main meal was 4 out of five and the overall atmosphere of the place is exceptional.
If you have not been, its is worth the trip to Stockbridge to have a go.

I like this place a lot but the waitress was having a bad hair day and totally spoiled the meal. So sadly i have marked it down from four stars to three.

I am a huge fan of this understated delight in Stockbridge, although I prefer the sister restaurant in Pottor Row. This is a relaxed, family restaurant and I recommend booking so you can get a seat. It’s bring your own bottle and corkage is cheap. The food is good, it’s hearty comfort food and I highly recommend the chicken redpepperjam which is so tasty!!!...

One of my favourite restaurants of all time! This is a lovely restaurant which I have had the pleasure to enjoy several times. I miss this restaurant now I don’t live in Edinburgh and rate it as one of my favourite places to eat. There is a lovely atmosphere in the restaurant. It is preferable to book a table as they can be busy which is understandable! The food is lovely. My favourite were the carpet bag steaks, a lovely steak with oysters and garlic. The chips are great here. It is a lovely relaxing restaurant offering a great dining experience. It is located in Stockbridge a nice area of Edinburgh. The staff are friendly and helpful.

Definitely one of the best restaurants in edinburgh. American styled with massive steaks and chicken and burgers etc, but the quality is definitely there! Not like a fast food place, more of fine dining. Also it is bring your own bottle so drinks work out very cheap. However the food is a little bit more expensive. Definitely recommend

I love this place. I have been a few times over the years and it is far better than it’s sister near the University.
It does really amazing burgers and there is a dish called chicken redpeppajam which has a sticky and hot sauce that is just lovely. It also comes with amazing corn fritters which are worth the cost of the dish alone.
It is a small venue and you are probably best to book ahead. I would also suggest that it isn’t really good for big parties, I would say a party of six is the most it could handle.
Nice staff, good puddings and as it is bring your own bottle you don’t feel the pressure to order that expensive house red if you really don’t want to.

I have been to this restaurant once with my boyfriend and we both loved the place. It is an american place with mainly steaks and burgers. We both had steak and it was gorgeous. It was very filling also and the prices are very reasonable.
You are best booking before you go as it is a very popular restaurant.
It is BYOB also, even though the place is licenced which is great as that helps reduce the cost of your meal straight away. You do not feel like you are getting rushed in the place either. Highly recommended.

went here with my work and really enjoyed my meal! I had garlic bread for starters with a chilli burger for my main, I couldn’t fit in a dessert! The burger was really good, the best burger I’ve ever had. Everyone I was with really enjoyed their dinner, some had steak with garlic mushrooms for starter (I don’t like mushrooms, but this was even tempting to me!). Good selection of wines too. Very friendly staff who were easy to chat away to.
The only problem I had here was that it was too filling for me. But that’s what you expect from a grill I suppose.
