The couple now running this place always consider it to be a pub though the food is absolutely excellent. It’s always been a brilliant beer pub - one of the best (though largely overlooked) in Oxford. This is mostly because it has a wonderful cool cellar that is below the waterline of the adjacent canal so the beer, even in the height of a scorching summer, is delectably cold without the benefit of artifice

The Anchor is more restaurant than a pub. That said, it's still a pub if that's all you want it to be - but you'll be missing out on some great food!

The Anchor used to be a dodgy place but it has been transformed into a family-friendly place which caters for all ages. There are even coffee mornings for mums and kids. Adult customers are not neglected - there is an excellent wine list to accompany the delicious gasto-style menu. And a quiz night.

The Eton Mess, made with local strawberries, is divine when in season. The Anchor's menu features organic produce and is local wherever possible. There is definitely care and attention to detail in the menu planning.

With luck this will become a North Oxford institution and there for years to come.
