I flew into Lubeck-Hamburg from my birthday weekend. While landing we commented on how we couldnt see the city. only when we landed did we find that we were actually an hour away from the city, and we were closer to denmark than to hamburg.

however, the tiny airport is away of its relative remotness, and there are varying amount of ways from getting from lubeck to hamburg. 1, a bus that is 'timed' for the landing of the ryanair flights to take you to the city centre...if you miss this, and you will. there is 2, a bus services to lubeck train station, and then an hour train ride to humberg centre train station.

the airport it self is...primative, but its gets the job done. Its like a giant barn, luxury should not be expected.

Don’t let ’em fool ya – Luebeck isn’t a suburb of Hamburg, no matter how loud Ryanair may try to tell you otherwise by hawking this destination as “Hamburg-Luebeck”.

The small airport – just an air strip with an accompanying industrial tent hosting the departure hall – is located about 70 kilometres/40 miles north-east of Hamburg, in a different state (Schleswig-Holstein).

But, then again, don’t let this stop you from catching a cheap Ryanair flight to Luebeck.

If you’re into the country-side and historic cities, the Luebeck area may be worth a visit. The Hanseatic City of Luebeck (7 km/4.3 mi from the airport) is on the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage list (for its medieval brick buildings). And the Baltic Sea is close-by.

If you want to make it to a larger Hanseatic City and don’t have a car, take the aiport bus A20 to Hamburg. The web page http://www.na-sicher.net/ryan/ will tell you all the necessary details.

Once you’re in Hamburg, you’re one happy Qyper! In case you haven’t noticed yet: Hamburg is the Qype capital of the world, and you’ll find an over-abundance of things to do, see, eat, and drink in this beautiful city by checking out the local reports.

If you encounter an interesting place on Qype.com which has only been described in German, just give a holler to the local Qype community. We’ll be more than happy to translate or help you around in any other way!

Oh, BTW, in case you're trying to use the airport to get out of Germany: Blankensee offers/will offer flights to London-Stansted, Bergamo (Milan), Stockholm-Skavsta, Pisa (Florence), Dublin, Girona (Barcelona), Danzig (Gdansk) and Leeds/Bradford.
