Newcastle City Pool was built in the 1920’s and retains most of its original features. If you are looking for something different, then hidden away in the basement of Newcastle City Pool you will find the 'best kept secret in town’ - one of the city’s original Turkish baths (one of only four original baths remaining in the country).
The City Pool Turkish Bath provides a friendly atmosphere and offers 2 hot rooms and a steam room which have changed little in over half a century. There is also a Jacuzzi and a rest area. The changing rooms have thankfully not been modernised, they remain small two bedded cubicles, clad with wood and illuminated by lamps rather than the hideous strip lights you normally find in such places. Towels are available to hire if you do not want to carry your own wet towel around with you afterwards.
Note: At the time of writing this review the Sauna Suite is closed until further notice, due to essential repairs.
