I waited a week to return to the hairdressers, when I did the lady who had coloured my hair wasn't in for another 4 days. When I pointed out my roots to the manager she said "thats probably because you hair is up" (a problem I have never encountered before), I was refused a part refund and the manager didn't even bother offering to properly look herself.
All in all this is the BIGGEST waste of £78 I have ever spent, this salon uses outdated techniques and is certainly not suitable for women in their 20s and 30s. I now still have roots and a patch streaky horrible colour. Unless you are after a perm or into tacky streaky highlights then avoid this place like the plague.
Oh and for those of you wondering what spatula highlights are:

Very impressed with my cut once again considering the wiriness of my hair. Good atmosphere in the salon made even better since the chubby loud receptionist has left. Would highly recommend the salon to men and women.

I am so pleased with my new haircut. I decided to take the plunge and change my long hair to a funky bob. I spoke to the head stylist, Nicola who listened to exactly what I wanted, she made me feel at ease (which I havn’t felt in other salons) and I am really pleased with the results. She has given me a really choppy bob, just what I wanted. I absolutely love it and will be booking my next appointment soon. Everyone has commented on how nice the style is and I have recommended this salon to my friends. I was really impressed with the stylists knowledge of colour too. I decided to have highlights but wanted to go for a golden brown tone instead of my usual blonde. The colour is exactly what I wanted. It’s the best colour I have ever had and this shows just how knowledgeable the stylist is. I was also impressed by how modern the salon is, it is really contemporary and has a really nice atmosphere.

I love it at Funk. I started going a while back when I couldn’t get into town so opted for somewhere more local. I found I could actually get much, much better value for money at Funk and have gone back ever since. I don’t really appreciate the faff and pretense in some of the big salons. Funk is perfect because you get good styling and excellent products but everyone is down to earth and friendly. Really recommend it :-)

The Funk Salon gave me star treatment, I felt right at home as soon as I came in! They were friendly, chatty, professional and ultimately very skilled. I thought I knew what I wanted but Sharon (one of the ladies who works there) told me what she thought would suit me best and I must say it was so much better than my original idea! All the staff were always making sure I was comfortable and brought me beverages and I enjoyed the time I was there! I definitely got more than what I paid for! I’ve seen other comments on here and I can’t help but to wonder if they went to the same salon, I was really impressed! Overall, a brilliant salon with excellent hairdressers and staff, I will definitely be going back!

i went to funk hair looking forward to getting a new style and treating myself ‘like us girls do :)’ when i arrived at the salon i was asked if i wanted a drink ‘which was given to me in a DIRTY cup :o’ i was left sat waiting for 25mins before i was seen by the stylist (dont no her name long brown curly thin hair) even tho the salon was not busy and there was no one there having there hair cut..there was two girls sat behind a curtain while i sat in the front of the salon alone an had to find my own magazines..when my hair was washed it was awful the water kept going cold and REALLY HOT the women who washed my hair was really rough with me ‘if your head sour defiantly don’t get a wash and cut’.when i spoke to the stylist about the cut i wanted i felt i was talked out of what i really wanted i felt she didn’t want to give me the cut i wanted so i was offered a trim and a side fringe to make it look different.i was really UN happy with my visit to funk hair an would not recommend to anyone i no.the magazines weren’t great, dirty cups,un-tidy sections and tension in the air.

What a great place. I started coming a while ago i know have the whole family going and friends. They have had a management shake up and any previous gripes about appointments being cancelled have all been resolved.
This is great salon which pay attention to their clients and what they want.
Prices are reasonable, staff are friendly. They have 100’s of very satisfied customers. All good.

amy shut up oink oink
I rang and booked my appointment and got one the same week. Its on the same road as the swimming baths about 5 shops down on the corner, they have a car park at the back of the shop then you just walk round the corner & its there.
When i arrived i was friendly greeted and offered a drink, i had a wash, cut & blow & everything went really well. They used good hair products & they smelt really nice too. I had a lady called Sharron who was pleasant & friendly cut my hair & she did a fantastic job, it looked alot healthier & she didn’t get scissor happy like other hair dressers ive been to previous.
Overall the hairdressers is tidy, clean & i am defiantly going back again.
I would also recommend to a friend/family.

I went a while ago based on all the good reviews and was really disappointed!! I will never be going back!! Everything was poor, from the hair wash (some lady with HUGE nails scrapping my scalp) to a rubbish cut -I asked for the dead ends to be cut but that I still wanted to keep the length and he cut about a millimetre off. I know I said I wanted to keep the length but this was ridiculous! I also made the mistake of asking for a sweeping fringe cut in and I had the most ridiculous tiny few strands of hair cut and brushed to the side - I spent the nect 4 month with my fringe pinned back. What a waste of time and money.

I have been living in Manchester as a student for nearly four years now, and have only twice bit the bullet to get a haircut here rather than going home for one - both disappointing for either price or quality. So this time I did some searching and decided to book into Funk based on the reviews I read on qype. I rang up on Tuesday and got an appointment for the Friday afternoon - nice and prompt!!
So, positives and negatives....
POSITIVES
+Salon is well decorated; very modern, clean and small enough that is feels cosy and friendly without being cramped.
+Friendly welcome, nice staff
+Quick getting an appointment
+Loved my haircut - I never seem to find anyone who does anything worthwhile with my hair, but Funk gave me a lovely cut and a blowdry which made my hair very 60s siren-esque, no mean feat on my heavy thick hair!!
+Cheap!!! Having paid £35 for a cut in town I felt stung by Manc hairdressers compared to my small north east salon back home, but my lovely cut at Funk was a snip at £25!
+Will be going back again!
NEGATIVES
Not many, but the main was the trainee stylist who washed my hair - the water temp kept alternating cold and warm which wasn't particularly pleasant, but more ballsy women would have said something!
She was also quite rough with you, she was rough drying my hair and was practically scrubbing the skin on my forehead off! However, I'll put this down to inexperience as it didn't really blight my experience that much!
All in all, I'd definitely recommend Funk if you want a nice haircut in a small, friendly, local salon at a reasonable price!

Of all the hair salons I have frequented in my 3 years in Manchester, Funk has got to be the best yet.
I got a great haircut at a great price, two times on the trot showing that it is consistent. The hairdresser, I think her name was Nicola, did just what I wanted and asked, giving great advice too.
I would definitely recommend, to anyone, but particularly to students since it is located a stones throw from Fallowfield and it is great value.

Situated slap bang in the middle of Withington Village, Funk is a cute little hair and beauty salon which appears to cater mainly towards the huge student population living in the area.
Like many of the other commenters here, I went to Funk based on the strength of the many positive reviews here on Qype. And I have to say that I was really satisfied with my experience there - the staff were attentive and chatty throughout my time there, and were very becoming with the compliments (I'm always a sucker for a person who tells me I look significantly younger than my actual age!). Also, the cut looked stunning. I left the salon feeling like a new woman - not bad considering it only cost me £25.
A few points though - I did have to wait for 20 minutes before I was seen to by the stylist. Granted, I wasn't in a rush to be anywhere, and I was provided with coffee, biscuits and magazines, but this is probably something to take into consideration if you're thinking of going there. Also, they don't take cards - and having to run to one of the cash machines on Wilbraham Road in the pouring rain is a sure fire way to wreck your new hairdo!
However, these are just minor gripes about what is essentially a cracking little salon. I know I'll certainly be giving the bargain-tastic Funk my custom next time my mop needs a trim.

I made an appointment and went to FUNK based on the reviews given on here and found that the prices were very reasonable and the cut I got was good but nothing special, although its now high maintenance, which isn’t ideal.
My main issue was the atmostphere, which is why I won’t be returning. I didn’t feel welcomed, I felt like I was passed from one person to the next from wash to cut to dry, with no explanation. I felt like an inconvienience and an outsider, and was quite frankly relieved to walk out of those doors!

It is located just end of Witihngton Village.
I went there with viewing the qype site and I must say I am pleased with my result.
I did 'wash and cut’ and it costs 16 pounds which is really good value for money. The hairdresser knows what I want to do and he really did very well. I am often fed up with too expensive price with hair salon so I am very pleased with the cost performance and needless to say the cut! They open till 8 pm so you can go after work too.

I seem to constantly be on the hunt for a good hairdresser and may have found the light at the end of the tunnel in Funk. Its quite a small hairdressers, just off Withington village, but I’ve been really happy with the cut I received there. Coming in under £20 is a must for these credit crunching times so I’m really happy with the value for money you get at Funk.
It is a relatively small hairdressers with only 3 or 4 chairs, but I enjoy the personal feel you get as opposed to the larger salons where you float around in a sea of about 20 other clients.

The sylist here did my hair and i honestly felt like a new wonam! They did such a good job and really explained to me how i could maintain the style easy, and the best products on the high st for my hair type. Very impressed!

I went to Funk based on the reviews above and I have to say I was extremely pleased. This place is unpretentious unlike some of the city centre hair dressers and the people were nice and friendly. My appointment was on a Wednesday evening and after a wait of about 15mins I was attended to. I had a hair consultation with the hairdresser (Nicola) and she was a lovely helpful lady.
She exactly understood what I wanted and was very skillful with her sissors. She gave me a decent chop and suggested how to style it too. She wasnt pushy at all with any of the products and recommended some good ones too.
Oh I must also give credit to the receptionist who was friendly and made me feel comfortable.
Overall I would definitely recommend this place and will be going there for my future hair cuts. At £25 for cut and finish I thought it was a bargain! They are open till 8pm everyday so its handy to pop in after work.
