I put off going up this for ages, because I kept thinking of better ways to spend two quid (pasties…Ben’s cookies…G&Ds). As others have mentioned, this was probably unwise, as it’s a real squeeze up the stairs. It’s really worth it though. As you climb the stairs, imagine how many thousand of people have made that journey before; people from all times and all places. Pretty impressive stuff.
It’s worth picking your day - it might seem like a good rainy day activity, but on a clear day, with the sun shining on the towers of Oxford and views out to the countryside beyond, it’s breathtaking. Definitely don’t forget to take a camera. You can spend as long as you like on top, which is nice after the claustrophobic climb. It’s also best done early or late in the day, as then you avoid the crowds and might even catch a sunrise or sunset, depending on the time of year. The lady at the counter is very friendly and the food at the bottom is tasty, if a little on the pricey side.
carfax tower is a keypoint in oxford and is at the crossroads of the roads in the town centre a great clock tower and admission applys.
this is a great place for tourists and a very hot spot in the city and is used as a good meeting place as everyone know where it is and when you wanna meet friends this is the perfect place as its central location .
i Can remember meeting all my friends here in my youth theres also a little gift shop in the ground floor and a cafe right next to the tower so after climbing the tower sit down have a rest .

Carfax tower is considered the centre of the City by University regulations. Interestingly, all undergraduate students must reside within 6 miles of the Carfax tower during term time. It is definitely worth paying £2 to climb to the top, from where you will have unrivalled (almost, the University church may be better!) views of Oxford from an ideal vantage point.

There has been something on this site for at least a thousand years. The tower dominates the city centre and at £2.10p to climb is a must for all tourist. Sadley the skyline isn’t has pretty as it was when first built.
There is a spiral staircase of over 80 steps. This place is not disabled friendly. And there is noway it could every be sadly. Everytime I climb the stairs the bell always catch me out and nearly send me flying, due to surprise, down the strairs. The lady on the counter told me she climb the tower once and never again! She spent a week recovering due to the excerise!

At only £2 it really is worth going up the CarFax tower to see the view. Best to do it on a clear day as you can then see pretty much the whole of Oxford from the far side of Botley to Cowley and BlackBird Leys. Most importantly, the aerial view of the spires and cathedrals are really great.
Getting up means going up a tight spiral staircase. I am claustrophobic but just about found it okay. As the above post says though, be careful as over weight as the stair case really is very tight.

If you really want to take in Oxford's dreaming spires at their best, it is worth spending £2 to climb the Carfax tower in central Oxford. It affords some panoramic views and some interesting historical information on the way up! The tall, winding staircase is not for the faint-hearted or the overweight, however.
