Opposite the Ashmolean museum, the playhouse is perfectly placed in the heart of historical Oxford. After some years of financial difficulty, the playhouse is back with a bang. This is THE place to come for Shakespeare in Oxfordshire. That being said, there is also a range of contemporary and student productions here throughout the year. The playhouse is only about a 10-15 minute walk from the train station, so it's very accessible to visitors too.

This is definitely one of the best theatres in Oxford, with something for everyone. Whether your taste leans towards modern drama, musicals, student productions or a traditional Christmas pantomime, the Playhouse has it! It also possesses a reasonably priced bar which serves snacks. If you hang around for long enough after the performance you might even get to meet your favourite member of the cast!
