I have a real problem, not with this station, but with the announcement made on the Northern Line when you arrive here. It states ‘This station is Oval’. Now that is neither true nor possible. If the station was Oval how would it not cave in? Surely, like other tube stations this station is cylindrical.

Otherwise, it is only really good for getting to the cricket ground, the ropey shops nearby and the park over the road. Not being one of the busiest stations, it is pretty quick to get from the platform to the street level.

I vote for Oval station to receive the title of ‘best underground station of 2008’. The station is well staffed, there are always copies of the Metro going spare, and I am greeted everyday with ‘Thought of the Day’ on the noticeboard at the entrance and a blast of classical music. What more could you need?

My buddy ed the duck used to live opposite Oval tube so it was quite handy back in the day when i wanted to pop round for a bit of PS2. Some pretty ropey pubs within a 200m radius of the station. I'd recommend walking down kennington park road to Fentiman road. The Fentiman is always a decent place to grab a beer or a bite to eat.

Lots of interesting little shops directly surround the station. I remember paying 80p for a pack of gum at one of these places. Seemed really steep to me. Of course this the station to come to if you are going to watch the cricket. Although the Oval is just as accessible from Vauxhall train and tube stations.
