Review of Barraco from 1 February 2013
Recently someone recommended this little place to me, otherwise I would probably never have found it. Barraco is a Brazilian restaurant and deli tucked away in a little side street just off Kilburn High Road. It seems to be popular with Brazilians - perhaps because this place is not only a restaurant, cafe and bar, but also sells Brazilian products.

Barraco is a nice place offering Brazilian dishes in a relaxed atmosphere. The food is good and not very expensive and you could try some Brazilian specialties.

I really like this quirky, down-to-earth place, especially the little dog that sat by the door to great every guest. Nice touch.

Review of Barraco from 24 March 2012

TRIED TO RIP US OFF! My boyfriend and I had dinner and drinks at Barraco this evening. When our bill came it had £25 extra added to it for the food and drinks alone, bringing what should have been a bill for around £60 in total inc service charge to around £85. The handwritten bill itself was mostly indecipherable. The items that we could make out had mostly been charged at more than the menu price, and some charges did not have any explanation. After complaining to the waitress and manager, a new bill was immediately presented for the correct amount, with the waitress claiming that she had given us someone else’s bill, even though the parts of the bill that we could read corresponded with our order, albeit at higher prices than listed in the menu. When my boyfriend paid the correct bill he specifically said he would not be paying service charge, but the waitress added it to the transaction anyway and we had to demand that it be refunded. On leaving the restaurant, the manager did not defend himself against our complaint of being ripped off, and instead offered us a better deal on our next visit (which wil not be happening!). Avoid unless you like being taken advantage of! Only gave one star as you can’t score 0!

You would never find Barraco without a suggestion from a friend or, say, a friendly review site (cue shameless shout at Qype). But it's one of those types of places you want to know about; from the laid back ambience to the local Brazillians gnattering away to each other. We were lead here by a friend and picked a little table outside. It's not a big place, but it was pretty packed considering it was a Tuesday evening.

It's got charming little eccentricities from the misspellings on the menu to the bits they just didn't really bother to translate, the stack of Brazillian papers by the door as you walk in and a jar of what we think was flavoured bread crumbs they plonk on the table.

I don't have too much experience with Brazillian food besides knowing it for the meat so not accustomed to a bowl of beans as an optional side etc but went for the expertly cooked rib eye with beans and salad and was rather chuffed. Great cut of meat and cooked 'medium rare' (that's right folks, not medium, not rare).

No it's not going to blow your gourmet brains out. But for £10 it's a great place to slink into something different and get a pretty decent meal out of it.
