Review of Coach & Horses from 12 August 2009 (updated on 14 June 2011)

Drink, fine food and accommodation in the Ribble Valley.

Refurbished in spring 2011 with more available sumptuous bar seating.
Wooden floors.
Friendly to walkers, riders and aging bikers.

Now increasingly renowned for its ability to stage functions, wedding parties and host parties.
The daily food here is a triumphant delight.
Good local guest beers on tap which change regularly.

Every Wednesday is the amazing value "L'Auberge " menu for £10.
We suggest you book in advance and await the surprise OR
ring late morning to confirm the menu. Usually fully booked if you leave it late, but the menu never disappoints.

When we visit the place is usually buzzing and the restaurant soon fills.
In a tiny rural village!
Much enjoyed by locals and tourists alike.
Restaurant planning means more than one sitting even at dinner.
Service is friendly, chatty and helpful, too.

You can visit for just a drink and perhaps enjoy a bar snack.
Retains customary values of a village Inn, but better food nowadays.

In the best category for eating in the Ribble Valley. Just brilliant food and service.

Overnight guest accommodation available in newly styled bedrooms.

The "Coach and Horses" in Bolton by Bowland has won a fine reputation. We have eaten here often, as a couple and as a family group.
We also enjoy the novel takeaway menu which is both delicious and excellent value.

Friendly, professional welcome.

Lunches, too, have been outstanding and matched the quality of the dining room furnishings.

Log fires burning in season.

Sunday lunch menu now available.
Authentic home-made soup and choice of fresh roast meat with several vegetables.
The in-house puds are wonderful. Try a "trio" of choices from the menu which all can share.

The main daily menu is a proper chef selection of several dishes which clearly proves that food is freshly prepared and cooked to order.

Wide range of ages eating here catering from single visitors, big family groups and romance couples.

There is a bar with adjacent leather sofas which devour you in comfort or you can sit at bar stools. Or stand and chat. Fine changing guest beers at a reasonable price. Bowland and Skipton b

It is still a welcoming place just to drink. What a joy to find local residents. Some real and proper farmers enjoy the place!

The renovation of this house was sensitively done. Lots of village photos of a bygone age in the secondary dining room and overall it was expensively fitted out in choice of furniture and decor.

Bolton by Bowland is one of the most beautiful riverside villages in Lancashire, set in rolling countryside on an historical road between the Lancashire Forest of Bowland and the Yorkshire Dales.

The "take-out" menu.
Regularly we have enjoyed champagne battered haddock and chips cooked in beef dripping, steak and kidney "rag" pudding or a real burger. What an original idea and well-packaged.

In-house, locally-sourced food, perfectly cooked and true value. The wine list is well chosen and very reasonable.

Consistent and enjoyably high standards that now compare favourably with great cooking anywhere in the UK.

Review of Coach & Horses from 11 February 2010

What a treat! After reading the review on qype, I decided to check out The Coach and Horses - I now only wish I lived closer.

We enjoyed a fantiastic 2 course dinner for £8.95, taking them up on their 'Sale'. My wife had a delicious potted Bowland beef to start, followed by a composition of pork dishes including medallion, kidney, black pudding and pork scratching with a mouthwatering sauce and I had rose veal stroganoff to start and then sea bream with a caviar sauce. All 4 dishes were exceptionally cooked and presented I hasten to add.

We both agreed that we would have paid over £25 each if we had been to some of their competitors.

Thanks for the tip off and when we are next in the area, we will definitely make a trip back.
