Tottenham Court Road Tube Station

Central tube but make sure you know what exit you need!

About as central as a station could be in London but cramped and miserable.

Not terribly well serviced either. Actually, the Central Line’s pretty decent (and I’ve had few problems taking it) but the the Northern Line sucks ass.

Generally, when I need to be somewhere in this area, I simply walk, take the bus or get out at Holborn or another station.

This stop is right next to my work place, so I am a frequent user, I always seem to be sandwiched between a group of 25 tourists not quite sure how to use an Oyster…

Exit 4 brings you up and out under centre point.

And Exit 3 brings you up and out under Dominion Theatre, which again is usually congested by students, tourists, and people waiting for people underneath where its wet and dry.

I tend to move through the station quite quickly, and know all the quick routes to my platform, but it is a rather dull uninteresting station, apart from the ticket guy who seems to like to chat me up… bless him.

There’s usually always something wrong with Northern Line as well..

As another reviewer has said, there’s some nice mosaics, but otherwise this place is rather sludge coloured and busy with people trying to walk in lots of different directions. The exits are a total maze, with some of them going off into somewhat scary underpasses that seem to take you miles away.

You might be best just using Exit 1. I know this well from when it was my exit for a job nearby! This one will bring you out quickly on the South side of Oxford Street, from there you should be able to find where you want to go by walking over-ground!

Oh TCR, how I hate thee so!

Seriously, this has to be the worst-designed tube station in London. Even when there's three people in there it feels crowded, so of course when you get anywhere near rush hour the place is a nightmare with streams of people criss-crossing each other and gettign more and more annoyed at the jostling.

In fact the only good thing I can think of about Tottenham Court Road are the Eduardo Paolozzi Mosaics which cover the walls... and I think they might be getting rid of them when they finally renovate the station!

Oh, I just thought of another cool thing about TCR - that scene in An American Werewolf in london that was filmed there. Gory!
