Apart from the rats, Waterloo underground is a nice station. The scrummages during rush hour aren't particularly fun (this is a major tube hub) but generally i've always found this station to be very agreeable. Lots of places to stop off for a snack and gernerally friendly staff ("on the underground!?" i hear you cry).
