We’ve been going to the Ha noi since it opened about 3 years ago. We miss them opening on Saturday lunchtimes which used to be our favourite time to go. On average we eat there once to twice a week. The other reviews are very fair and accurate, it’s not the Ritz by any stretch of the imagination but the food is just amazing and the staff very friendly. There is a profound quality, and subtlety in the food that you just don’t see anywhere outside of London. Even the “Chinese” non-adventurous dishes are better than you will find elsewhere, little touches like tamarind and tangerine in the sweet and sour and so on.

Our favourite dishes include the double cooked pork, almost a caramel sauce with sweet rich star-anise, the steamed beef in fish sauce (maybe not for a first-timer…) the prawns with aubergine, and ALL the starters! The beef rice and the mia sao dacbeit noodles are great too.

Take wine if you want, though the jasmine tea suits us. If we REALLY pig out we’ll spend about £20 a head - it is incredible value.

The opening hours can be a bit erratic, there is only the chef and the waitress, so if one is off sick then they have to close so it’s worth ringing to make sure.

Fantastic restaurant, Very reasonable prices and great food. Taking your own wine makes it a very affordable night out. The lady who served us was lovely. It is very brightly lit and eccentrically decorated. The seating is close enough for it to perhaps be rather intimate with your fellow diners. Not the place to propose but great fun.

We absolutely LOVE this place.

There’s no style whatsoever - it’s all old decor, exactly as when it was Poppy’s Cafe a couple of years back - but it’s all about the food.

And believe me, the food is fantastic.

We eat there a couple of times a month, and always try something new off the menu, and we haven’t been disappointed yet. The chicken satay and the squid in garlic & chilli are sublime, and I love the mi sao noodles.

One thing though - take your own wine, as they don’t serve it.

Oxfordshire's best kept secret. The food at Ha Noi is sensational - beautifully presented and delicious. But not exactly fine dining surrounds, a former tea shop it seems to retain its rickety furniture with plastic table clothes and bright lighting. It's tiny too - only about six tables and seems to be only two members of staff, one cooking and one serving. We always go early and service is prompt and friendly - but it may slow down a bit when all the tables are full. There is no alcohol license so take your own wine (beer not allowed, I think). With prices already reasonable, taking a bottle of supermarket wine really makes it a cheap night out for fantastic food. Highly recommended. NB. No credit cards!
