City Cuts and Colours Hair Salons

After a disastrous highlighting experience at another salon, I was initially a bit nervous about trying another “low cost” salon but my hair needed fixing fast and I couldn’t afford anywhere swish.

I left City Cuts as happy as I’ve ever been with a London hairdresser.

The salon isn’t very glamorous, it looks more like a men’s barber shop but the staff were all friendly and welcoming, even if that welcome came from a hairdresser halfway through another client’s hair. I guess not paying for a receptionist or spending heaps on décor is part of why they can keep prices so affordable.

My hair was a mess; I’d been medium/light brown wanting to go blonde and had visited another salon about 6 weeks ago and they’d done a rubbish job; half head of foils without any consultation on colour, no toner used and my hair was looking decidedly brassy/gingerish.

At City Cuts, my hairdresser Terry just got it from the start. He understood why I was unhappy, what I wanted and talked to me about what I could achieve now and what I should get done in future.
He showed me a colour chart of the highlight he planned to put through, and said that he would alternate two highlights to one lowlight to tone in with the darker colours and stop my re-growth being too hash. This is what my old hairdresser in NZ used to do, so I instantly felt reassured that it would turn out ok.

I explained that I liked my foils as fine as possible, to avoid the stripey look and again Terry understood straight away. A lot of hairdressers say they will give you super-fine highlights then go ahead and do them medium-thick anyway; I guess possibly as the fine ones are a lot more time consuming, but the ones Terry did were some of the finest, least stripey I’ve ever had.

When it was all finished, I was thrilled. It looked exacted like I’d wanted and had been unable to get last time.
For a full head of foils on long hair, with a cut, it cost me £90, which is less than what a half head would have cost most places.

I’ll definitely be back!

Aurane is a perfectionist and I am consistently happy with the colour and cut she gives me. I have tried many hairdressers over the years and Aurane is the best by far. She always does my hair exactly how I want it. If you only want a little off or a total restyle she does exactly that. She is also very friendly and I have recommended her to all my friends who now come to her! And the price is great for a hairdressers in London.

Sara is Brilliant! I love coming to Sara for my cut and colour and I always walk out feeling fabulous. This place is also amazing value – I’ve paid twice as much for cut and colour and it wasn’t anywhere near as good. And I follow Sara wherever she goes, it’s because she is amazing at recognising what suits the client best. Sara has always done a wonderful job with great attention to detail, huge care and obvious technical ability.

Went in there last weekend and had an amazing experience. Great cut and what impressed me most was the time it took! Well done and see you soon!
