Review of The Factory Gym and Dance from 4 March 2013
This has got to be the most unfriendly gym ever with no customer service.  I have been a member of various gyms over the years and thought I would try something new as this gym purports to be a dance and fitness gym so I thought I would be able to learn to dance and at the same time keep fit.  But the dance classes are no more than your run of the mill aerobics classes.  The "ballet" teacher didn't know what she was doing and got so fumbled and mixed up about the routine she was trying to teach that half the class lost interest. But the worse thing about this place is the incredibly unfriendly (and almost menacing) staff.  There are a couple of nice guys there, a guy called Jack and one of the female yoga teachers, but the overall feeling is one of unfriendliness and the male yoga teacher is positively rude.  Cancelled my membership, I'm not going back.

Thank you for your feedback Esther, the review concerns me highly, especially as it seems to have impacted on your experience in such a negative way.
Can I ask who you spoke to regarding your concerns and the solutions/resolutions that were offered to you?
We are normally highly regarded for our service in that we try to get to know our members and for the most part have nothing but positive feedback on how friendly we are.
If you want to contact us directly please call or email Ellen, our dedicated membership services member of staff, on 020 7272 1122 or ellen@factorylondon.com and hopefully we can find out how we can make up for our shortcomings.
    Sincerely,
    Alex
    Manager

I am normally not interested in training on my own so I love the variety of classes the gym offers. The staff has always been helpful and the instructors are great!

Well I've been a Factory member for 3 or 4 yrs now and I don't know what I'd do without the place. They came to my rescue, and many others, when our last gym went bust and apart from the reasonable price incentive, we followed one of our favourite trainers there and she still makes us want to get off the sofa and workout no matter what the weather.
The Factory keeps me sane(ish) and my spirits lifted, as well as keeping me fit and enhancing my social life. There are so many different types of classes, gym equipment and trainers to keep us all motivated. We all have our favourites and the wide choice means not being trapped doing something boring/unappealing/inappropriate to the individual.
Sure there are days when you might catch someone a little less than cheerful. Don't we all have days like that? And yes, I can find things to complain about in the facilities - and indeed often do but what I appreciate is that I never feel that those moments are held in judgement against me, and I've certainly NEVER been shouted at!
I've been a member of various sorts of fitness clubs for about 36yrs now and I certainly wouldn't stay at one if it was truly as awful as the one described in a few of these reviews. So as an experienced gym/fitness club user I would not hesitate to advice others to join The Factory.

The Factory offers service with a smile.  When I call up to book my classes, they know my name from my voice and are always very friendly.  The community feel makes me even more eager to go along and I have made friends in the classes who spur me on!

I have been going to The Factory for a couple of years now and have no intention of leaving.  The classes are so varied and the teachers, knowledgeable.  The gym has new equipment and you're offered a free workout plan when you need it (or if they think you're getting bored of your current one).

This is the only gym I have lasted a year at- the staff are the right balance of helpful without imposing. The trainer I was assigned when i joined has been brilliant at making sure I stay motivated; she often comes to see how I'm doing when she sees me working out and has even been known to leave me encouraging notes on my programme between sessions. And management send me emails occasionally to follow-up too.

There is a really great mix of classes that are all approachable even for those of us who are less than expert.

The only drawback is that it isn't open earlier in the morning to fit in a quick session before work...but I think that makes it a civilised gym and it certainly hasn't hindered me in the year I've been a member.

There is always a friendly and welcoming atmosphere- something I have not always experienced particularly in the weight-training areas at other London gyms.

I recommend it to all my friends locally - definitely the best gym I have been a member of.

Just joined The Factory after 10 years of lazyness. The staff make an effort to remember every customers name and are always happy to help. They have a relaxed manor, so i feel more at home. The classes are fun an the teachers are really friendly, though i'm yet to meet Mr Motivator... ;o)
You get a load of 1 2 1 sessions with the personal instructors included in your monthly fee which is £55 i think a month. The other good thing is that you have a 3 month membership with 1 month rolling. My overall experience is great! it's relitively small, but has a homely feeling. And Lee the manager has always been friendly and nice to me, maybe he was having an off day that day.

Wow… and not in a good way.

Just spoke to someone called Lee, how incredibly hostile and rude.

Would not recommend.

Review of The Factory Gym and Dance from 8 January 2012

I am shocked and appalled by the treatment I received this morning at the Factory Gym and Dance, but relieved that I see from reviews I am not the only person to have had such a bad experience. I rang up last night and booked myself in to try a Zumba class this morning and was due to meet Lee, the sales person, afterwards to talk about membership. My first impressions on entering the club were poor: Alex – the manager – was on the phone for at least 5 minutes while I was waiting. He did not acknowledge my presence. When he came off the phone, he made a face at the phone, did not smile at me or apologise for keeping me waiting. He did not ask how he could help me but just stared silently at me. I introduced myself and told him why I was there. He could not find me in the system and called Lee. Similarly, Lee did not smile, introduce himself, offer a handshake or ask how he could help me. He seemed rather grumpy and asked if I had a leaflet (I did not know anything about leaflets). After another few minutes of unsatisfactory communication, I asked Lee if I could have a private word and expressed my disappointment at the first impressions I’d received on entering the club. Lee said: “You obviously don’t know how it works here. We don’t let everyone join. You are not welcome to join – get out”. I was shocked and embarrassed (this was in front of other members). I had been on the premises for less than 10 minutes, had spoken politely and had not raised my voice. He marched me to the front desk where he told Alex to throw me out. I asked Alex whether he wanted to hear my side of the story and he said “No, just get her out”. It seemed so absurd that I really didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. When I got home, I googled the club and saw that there had been many dissatisfied customers, mainly because of the way they had been treated by the staff. I am very surprised that Time Out have given this gym 5 stars. I am now looking for other places that offer dance classes in North London.

Hi Emmie, this review was left by a member of the public who was asked to leave as they were being rude and aggressive towards staff. Fortunately these kinds of situations are exceptionally rare but when they do they are always followed by an unfavorable review.

If you are looking for a gym with customer service, do not join The Factory as there is none. What you will get for your monthly fee is a manager (Alex) that will ignore you and staff that will shout at you.

This is a really vibrant and lively new gym if you want to work out.Transformed a few years ago from an Argentinian Tango Dance Centre it attracts a mixed class of people from the local area. There are drop-in sessions as well as 6 -week fitness course at affordable reasonable prices.
