A bar serving a huge variety of beers- bottled and draft. My favourite twist that the do here is a 'stick’ of beer tastings- which is a selection of small glasses of beer on a long thin stick. This is a great way to taste a selection of the best selling beers without having to drink a pint of each one. We got two for a large group and passed the around so we could choose the best beer to order. Its worth noting that the tasters are not free though- you still have to pay for them!

Expensive but pleasant bar with a Dutch/Belgian style (i.e. the low lands). The chips look nice and the ability to order a selection of beers in a third of a pint measures allows you to try a few things out. There are some very interesting choices too, all kinds of beers (including fruit beer).

In the end though I am unlikely to instigate a visit back here as even compared to the prohibitive prices found throughout London, this place is shockingly expensive for a bar/restaurant.

Definitely worth a visit if someone else is paying, otherwise once may be enough.

Lowlander is about as authentic a belgian bar outside of bruge as you’ll get. It looks Belgian with the typical high celings and long bench tables found in many a grand cafe, the beer is of course belgian (with a few cheeky dutch choices thrown in for good measure)and the staff generally have non descript european accents so could be belgian.

This is a great place to come for a coffee followed by a few choice brews with some good company and a broad sheet newspaper, but if you want a good drinking session then make sure you re-mortgage your house first because this place is EXPENSIVE! in fact if you do want to get drunk on belgian beer I would advise taking a cab to Kings Cross, jumping on the eurostar and checking into a suite at the Hilton Antwerp as it will probably still work out cheaper.

As for the food, well its tasty but in all my time in belgium I only ever experienced the natives eating copius amounts of ham, cheese and salad baguettes but maybe you cant get away with charging a tenner for that.

but I digress. Overall this is a nice place, with nice decor and fantastic beer.

Give it a go but make sure you visit the ATM first!!

Belgian pub full of charm. And beer, and mussles. Not the cheapest place I’ve been to and not sure if the quality and location can justify it but decent moules mariniere. And definitely the best part is the beer tasting paddles they offer. You can choose between 3 or 5 'tasters’ - roughly about a third of a pint each to sample the different delights - fruit-flavoured beers, wheat beers etc. Catchy decor, decent staff although it took about 10 minutes from getting my mussles before my chips arrived which is not ideal. Definitely worth a visit if you’re after a pub with a bit of something different, and best of course for beer lovers.

Really good for a group! We walked in unannounced and they served us straight away. The food arrived quickly and was great, everyone seemed happy. The wheat beer selection was good and the prices were relatively reasonable for London. The service was good for tables, but only down side is that they don’t do individual bills or let you pay individually - it’s just one bill and they add a service charge.

Lowlander always do an excellent job of catering for large parties - the mezzanine floor in particular is worth booking if you take a big group. Being popular with large parties, expect it to get very loud when the place is full. As others have said, the range of beers is impressive, and part of the fun is combing through the beer menu in search of something that suits the mood at that particular moment in time (you’ll most likely keep trying different beers throughout the visit). I like the food here, too. It’s quite heavy, but that’s what is needed to soak the beer up.

Lowlander has been a favourite of mine since the first time a colleague introduced it to me. Its extensive menu of Belgian and Dutch beers drew me in straight away; it’s always a good/dangerous sign when a pub serves 750mL beer at 9%+...

Dropped by on a Saturday night instead of the usual weekday evening and was surprised to find how quiet it was (not that it was empty so much as not spilling onto the street). It actually had a nice relaxed buzz to it, which was a little bit less chaotic than usual. Mussels were delicious, as were the chips. I made my way through one of their tasters as there was more than one beer that I “needed” to try, which was a good choice because my first choice was probably the most lackluster beer of the night (I forget the name of the blond on tap, but it was completely lacking in character…hmmm…). I wouldn’t recommend the raspberry kriek either unless you want your teeth ringing from the sugar.

To quote Homer Simpson: “Mmmm…beer…”

We like this place - but then again what’s not like with a 1 page menu and a 20 page drinks menu?

Great selection of beers - having Amstel on tap is a winner to kick off with, but the huge range they have in there is excellent. However, it’s worth bearing in mind that these are serious beers and not to be taken lightly - try having four pints of the Delirium stuff…picture uploaded of a bottle of it - it can’t be a good idea to drink it can it?

Good food as well. It’s not cheap, but it’s not ridiculous and the service is good and it has a friendly atmosphere.

Mmmmm the food is delicious and there’s lots of it. Fat chips are amazing. Not much of a beer fan but with 10 pages of choice there’s definitely something for everyone and importantly the wine is great too. It was my first visit here a few nights ago and no doubt it’ll be the first of many.

Awesome selection of beers. Much better than Bierodrome (but much more expensive). I found myself sipping on a Maredesous last night which was delicious. The food in here is also pretty good. A burger will set you back about £10 but it’s well worth it. Watch out for the 8.5% beers. They’ll destroy you!

Brixton Holloway is spot on. A great spot to try Belgian Beers in Belgian Style, with food and good company. Beers come accompanied with the correct glasses ( a Belgian innovation/obsession) and the promotional artwork (some from the 1920s and some brand new) is a sight to behold.

This bar was a favored destination after work, but it does get busy, and it is advisable to book.

The selection of beers is great - particularly if you fancy trying something different. It’s the first time that I’d tried strawberry beer, and it’s disturbingly easy to get drunk on. If you order the coconut beer - which, granted, is very odd - it comes in a bowl, not a glass. It’s very difficult to impress people drinking coconut beer out of a bowl.

The table service is great, and they deliver beers in pitchers if requested. The chips make a very welcome addition to any beery evening.

The trappist beers are definitely worth a try - they sell a tasting rack - 5 half pints of a selection of different beers - worth it if you fancy pushing the boat out a little.

One of my favourite continental-style cafes in London, only a few minutes walk from Covent Garden.

Styled along the lines of a Belgian or Dutch “Brown Bar” it has lots of dark wood and a nice continental feel. The food menu is interesting including a Cold Meat Platter, Mussels, Carbonnade of Beef, Burger, Pork Belly, Steak Frites and Stoemp sausages, Smoked Mackerel, Wild Mushroom Tagliatelle, Tuna Nicoise. The food is good and two courses costs around £12-20. They also do a range of nibbles if you just want to graze whilst drinking.

Even though the food is good, it isn’t the main reason why I’d go there: I go there because of the beer.

Although the place is waiter serviced there is a huge bar down one side of the bar with around 15 beer taps, add to this an extensive menu of over 40 bottled beers, and this must be close to beer heaven. If you can’t decide what to drink they do “beer sticks” in two sizes with taster size samples of the draught beers so you can pick your favourites.

If you fancy something different: in addition to hosting conventional parties they also hold regular tutored beer tastings with a “beer sommelier”.

Great place, good food, great beer, go there!

If you prefer beer from the continent, the Lowlander is a good place to visit. A low-profile pub with a large selection of Dutch and Belgian beers, its near Covent garden and has a nice friendly feel. It does not get as busy as other haunts in the area, and its quite pleasant to drink your beer and be able to have a conversation! Of the pubs in Covent garden, this is one of my favourite to meet friends and down a few congenial beers together.

I'm quite partial to this mini-chain of Belgian 'bistro' style cafes.

They have a huge range of draft and bottled beers to choose from so you never have to drink the same one twice (unless you drink a LOT of beer) and the foods pretty good (classic bistro stuff like mussels, steaks, chips etc).

It's table service which is great if you're planning to be there for a while, but the place does get packed as soon as people finish work so you might want to ring up and see if they'll reserve you a table.
