Don’t do it. The sound is truly dreadful. The venue is dark and dismal. Toilets bad. If you’re a band and you wanna sound good this is not a good choice.

Went to see the The Mob, Zounds, Rubella Ballet & others at Brixton Jamm. The bands were great, the sound wasn’t very good apart from the Zounds set. The venue was overcrowded and difficult to move around. The two stages didn’t suit the night when the one main stage would have sufficed. ‘Security’ insisted on closing one set of doors, so this made it difficult to get through the crowd and didn’t help the appalling lack of ventilation. The main stage room had about 95% humidity and was over 40 degrees Celsius – not recommended. The toilets were rank with the fetid stench of stale urine/ammonia – unsanitary.
The gig was advertised as starting at 7 pm and finishing at 4 am. This was not the case. The late start wasn’t such an issue, but for unknown reasons someone on the staff at Jamm decided to close the venue at 2 am! No anouncement was made. There were still plenty of people outside (and some inside) enjoying the ‘fresh air’ when the doors were locked. We and others still had items in the cloakroom, so we had to wait half an hour until ‘security’ (he was not a bouncer though) ejected someone and we had to argue our case quite hard for him to let us in to rightfully collect our things – he didn’t care that we had cloakroom tickets, he only wanted to get rid of everyone asap. This ended the night on a sour note, as it was totally unnecessary to treat paying customers like this. The Mob who arranged the gig were not particularly happy with the way things transpired either.
The policy of plastic beer glasses is a joke when glass bottles are also sold at the bar and were plentifully strewn all over the floor. Health and safety very poor/non-existent. None of the staff or security had any first aid knowledge, paramedics eventually came to assist a casuality of the evening aftert the unfortunate chap was very roughly handled by security, which was unnecessary and a potentially risky thing to do. Luckily one of the customers had first aid knowledge and provided some beneficial assistance.
Overall, not very impressed by Brixton Jamm, 2 out of 5 and that’s being generous. The bands were great, the sound could have been better but there’s always room for improvement. One particular member of staff was really out of order closing the venue early on a selfish whim, being rude and threatening, denying people access to their coats and bags, or to even use the toilet. Unethical and unnecessary.
Beware means be aware. I shall not be venturing back to Jamm any time soon.

Jamm has had a few top quality DJ nights, most notably, those helmed by Felix B, one half of Basement Jaxx, who lives somewhere in the vicinity. It’s not quite a club, more like a pub with a dance floor, and I’ve had quite a memorable night here (not least because I managed to lose my credit card, Oyster, ID and cardigan here – yes, I had had a lot to drink).
I’m heading back here in a few minutes for the Halloween party, this time though, with boyfriend in tow, so this time, I shouldn’t lose anything!
Only three stars because of the complicated cloakroom system and general grunginess of the place. Oh, and the inadequate lost and found system too!

Brixton Jamm is a good venue, but the quality of your night all depends on the promotion that is running at that particular time.
I have been there on numerous occasions, to DJ and to party, some nights have been quite mediocre and others have been awesome.
Do your research before you go to ensure your experience is as good as it should be.

Hi Well just coming in from brixton jamm, wow wat an awesome night. I went to see da legendary Jah Shaka Sound System.
Heavy like lead great crowd very mixed bunch of electic people so I fitted in straight away lol very friendly , well into the music -dub.
Venue was abit on da small side for such a large artist as the rooms are split into 2 making the main room a sweat box and no room to dance, felt my skin cooking so retreated to the adjoining room to dry off and stretch my legs so I could of course skank wildly without being done for GBH LOL.
Bar staff friendly and cool.
Upon reflection I think they need to knock out da wall and make it into a gaint room.
Have to say it was not easy to find I was kinda like Anika Rice running thru the side streets of Brixton hearing wierd wolf whistles as I nagivated my way to the venue so better directions needed.
Conclusion great night out….

Brixton Jamm is one of the few remaining places in London which support reggae sound system culture. Being in the heart of Brixton, and a renowned redoubt during the Brixton riots, it is an apt place to really experience sound system culture; and the cutting edge of dance music.
The thing is about cutting edge music, is that the scene is necessarily underground. In this regard, Brixton Jamm is ideally suited to hosting these events, given its non intrusive, almost homely decor, which assists significantly in creating a relaxed atmosphere inside the place; augmented by the reasonably priced drinks and entry prices.
Spread over two rooms, the venue has ample capacity (about 550 all in all) to cater to both live and DJ music genres. With regular nights featuring Basement Jaxx, Utah Saints, Stereo MCs, Congo Natty, King Tubby’s Carnival HiFi, Alabama 3 and more, it is also a 'destination venue,’ given it’s not immediately in Brixton, but between Brixton and Oval; you know that everyone there is a true fan of whatever music is being played.

My feelings are a bit mixed on Jamm as I had a really good night there that ended quite patchily.
The venue is split into two rooms, and I was there to see I’m From Barcelona in one of those rooms. The evening was fantastic, as were the band and we drank and talked with them afterwards on the decking out front. We were all having a great evening when at one point an aggressive lady decides to join in our conversation making as inflamatory remarks as possible in order to try and get a reaction. The band left not long after she arrived and we were left with her hanging around as though she was with us. After a while of her attitude ruining our evening, I had a word with one of the bouncers to see if he could help. He walked up to her, said “these people have asked me to ask you to leave you alone” and walked off. Great.
She ended up getting livid at the fact that one of us had a problem with her and was demanding to know what was wrong with her. About 10 minutes later she was back to her aimless aggressive self seemingly forgetting our dislike of her and so we decided to leave also. What that bouncer did was hugely irresponsible, and with that kind of attitude, I’ve not been back to Jamm since nor would go back.

This big pub/venue is situated in an odd place, on its own a little bit, but is a cool place to go if you know the band playing, and you bring a couple of mates. I have played here a few times, so has my dad with his full rock band and the sound is pretty good! The stage is big, and so is the dance floor. There are DJ’s (alabama 3 apparently!) many nights. There are 2 big rooms, both with bars. The staff are a little uptight, but i had a good time. There is a nice outside area with tables and chairs, good for the smokers! I recommend going here, it is a little gem.

From the outside, the Jamm looks like the kind of place where people get shot in the toilet over drug deals gone wrong, but it's actually a really friendly and cool venue. It's a bit run down and frizzled at the edges, but that somehow just adds to its friendly and laidback atmosphere. They seem to be putting on all kinds of events, from club nights to belly dancing courses to comedy.
I went to the Hasselhoff Scandal club night, which served up some great dj-ing. Now I'm not sure what was supposed to be scandalous about it, except perhaps the pictures projected on to the wall of David Hasselhoff in some dangerously tight speedos.

This place is well worth the visit, doorstaff are nice (they really didn't have to be the state I was in) and inside the sound system can be cranked up to the eye wobbling. The outside patio bit feels a bit too much like a prison courtyard though ... Quality music south of the river!

The Brixton Jamm is a scuzzy but lovely little venue between Oval and Brixton. They put on all kinds of nights from dub reggae to electronica to indie. It's made up of two large rooms with a stage in one, and bars in both with reasonably priced drinks and a good soundsystem, it's just a shame that it's a bit of a treck to get to.

Great venue off the beaten track, but dont let that put you off. Went for a Hip Hop/Reggae club night. Has a great friendly vibe. 2 rooms. The first is large and spacious. The second room has stage, a separate bar and, most importantly, a quality soundsystem. Nice courtyard for smokers out front. Worth the trek up Brixton Road

i've only ever been to jamm for the monthly club night "Offline" held by the urban75.com peeps ....I don't know how they do it but they get comedians such as Stewart Lee and Richard Herring on their bills alongside lesser known bands and djs later on in the night and all for FREE.
Good crowd very welcoming to people not involved in their forums.
