Hi, I think I may have spoken to you on the phone yesterday, by law you need to be 18 years of age to get a tattoo in UK. Hope this helps! NO studio is allowed to tattoo any persons under this age even with parent consent.

I highly recommend Chioko for body piercing, I got my tongue done here recently by Manu. First time tongue piercing and I was worried about all the horror stories I had heard about nerve paralysis and hitting veins but was completely put at ease by the staff. Manu was experienced (10 years +), professional and generally awesome, the piercing looks and feels great, did not experience much swelling or infection after at all (was also taking ibuprofen). Would definately put myself in Chiokos capable hands again.

Avoid avoid AVOID!!! I went there to have my ear lobes pierced. The lady seemed nice. She did it with a needle and not a gun and was painful. After a few days I realized that the piercing was not straight so the earrings were facing downwards. Also, one was infected. Went back to take them off and told her what I thought. She just wouldn’t admit it the trajectory of the piercing was wrong. She took them off but it was quite painful again because of the infection. A guy who was there, I believe the owner?, looked at me in a bad way because I screamed. I didn’t get my money back. Bye bye £20. VERY unprofessional. Wouldn’t go there again, and would’t recommend the place to anyone. They put me off piercings.

Hi Sarahdane,
I’m the owner of Chioko and I’m sorry to hear you have had a bad experience. I would like to hear what happened, Please could you contact the studio at your earliest convenience, We would like to improve our service the best we can, especially if a customer is left un happy. I find it difficult to hear you have been treated in such a way and would appreciate if you could come speak with me. I’m a little confuses regarding your comment (review) as we do not charge £20 for earlobe piercings and we would never advise to take the jewellery out of a new piercing if a infection is suspected. Could you let me know the date we did your piercings so I can see what members of staff were working? If you would like to contact me please call the phone number(s) given on your aftercare form, or if you prefer email it’s no problem. I hope to hear back from you soon….

I still have the the paper that I signed regarding the piercing aftercare instructions. Unfortunately, I don’t have the exact date of the piercing. But the check up date marked on the paper is 01/12/10 (yes, a long time ago, but a traumatic experience nonetheless). I am sure the amount I paid was £20 or around that. The lady that did the piercings was a lovely foreign lady with I think a Spanish accent? And yes, she did remove the earrings, even though I mentioned there was an irritation, in order for the piercings to heal. I truly appreciate your interest, although when I needed it, it wasn’t shown.
I went to Chioko on the recommendation of a friend to have my tragus pierced a few years ago. It’s a bit of a journey for me from South London but I was nervous about getting my first slightly edgy piercing and I wanted to go somewhere I felt I could trust. The piercing ladies were completely lovely and 5+ years later I’ve had no trouble with this piercing.
I’ve been back to Chioko for subsequent piercings. The staff are always lovely and really make me feel like I’m in expert hands. Now I would never go anywhere else.

Not that I'm an expert or anything, but I would point anyone seeking a tattoo in the direction of Chioko. It doesn't look like much, granted, being hidden away in a diminutive basement beneath an arbitrary accessory shop, and inside is crowded in a cheerful sort of way, but I've never met people more friendly about permanently scarring me. I'd advise making an appointment rather than just wandering in.
Facilities-wise, the actual studio is also small, bereft of a bench or similar, so having work done in an awkward position may be something of a challenge. Hygiene is no worry at all, as everything is sterile and wrapped; there's also a bench just outside, so you can bring a friend to sit and call moral support through the door.
I have also a sneaking suspicion that the price is adjusted based on how much the owner and the artist like the design. This being effectively a tax on ugliness, I approve whole-heartedly.
