Very disappointing experience with Mother Mash I’m afraid, I found it to be hideously overpriced, with the mash quite unappealing - I think I make better mash at home!

The vegetarian pie I had was very small, with not much flavour - a Ginsters has more flavour than the one I was served! My partner’s sausages were overcooked, and both dishes were absolutely drowned in gravy - making my pie very mushy.

The mustard and cheese mash I had was just so tasteless, it was like they’d forgotten to put any flavour in - I even had to check that they hadn’t accidentally served me the plain mash instead.

Overpriced,I’d suggest going to Square Pie instead, in outlets such as Selfridges. Much more reasonably priced, plus the mash is incredible, as is the gravy. And, of course, the pies!

This cosy pie/sausage/mash restaurant is only getting more appealing as the winter months (cue rain and cold) rolls in. Choose from pie or sausage, add your choice of mash and gravy and enjoy! Seriously good vegetarian options (right down to veggie gravy), and a well packaged take out option (difficult when you consider the logistical nightmare of transporting gravy) make this an easy choice on a cold winters day. Friendly staff, and good value for money too.

Oooh, who doesn’t love a bit of mash. I went here after a theatre show and while I had dinner before the show and my mates did not, they ate the whole pie or sausage/mash deal and I just went for a small plate of cheesy mash with a helping of mushy peas topped with onion gravy. Small it wasn’t but boy was it good! There was plenty of onion in my gravy and the cheesy mash was just about right. There was the potential for sickening amounts of cheese smothering my mash but I liked the subtle amount of cheese melted throughout the mash. A satisfying meal but make sure you are hungry.

Nice thought but think it was kind of like pin the tail on the donkey and they missed him completely.
I got the pork and leek bangers and they were ok apart from the GIANT WINDPIPE STRETCHING FROM END TO END. Ok, it was shorter than that, but it was definitely of sphincter nature and did make me panic a little. But thesee are sausages so one can’t be too surprised. But the mash and gravy were pretty poor too - the 'cheesy mash’ (or any mash variation for that matter) comes with you big spoon of mash dusted with a slight bit of cheese. And the 'caremelised onion gravy with red wine’ tasted like a bisto special, with a single, lonely sliver of onion (very non-caramelised). Add all this with the fact that it cost me £8, and you’ll agree 2 stars on concept is pretty generous.
Fabulous idea but pick up the pace a bit chaps.

I do have to give my two pence for Mother Mash… for what it’s worth. Great tunes that give you flash backs, and a prompt service fall under the plus.
The minus comes from their vegetarian sausages… they are wheat based, so they are quite doughy and hard to digest. And yes I know this is a place for the meaty people, and all the gang were praising the meat options… but vegetarians be warned…

Mother Mash is great! Just as Rob described it, there are three steps: 1) pick your mash; 2) pick a pie or sausage; and 3) pick a gravy. I opted for cheesy mash, chicken, leek and ham pie, and onion gravy. The mash was outstanding--cheesy but not overpowering. The mash is the star, although the pie and gravy were quite good as well. I had takeway, and service was very quick. I will definitely be back.

Nice little addition to the places around Carnaby Street to grab lunch.

The concept goes like this: choose your mash option from the 'classic' (i.e. spuds, milk and butter) to the more complicated. la-de-da options (cheese and mustard, champ mash, creme fraiche etc).

Step two: pick a banger or a pie. The beef and Guinness bangers are spot on and they also have a veggie option. I haven't tried the pies yet but they do a good range from steak to lamb to fish (and veggie again), and if they're anything like the sausages then they'll be pretty good.

And then: step 3: Gravy! Normal, onion, east end liquor or mushroom.

I know: too many choices! They even give you the option of having a more 'textured' mash!

There's a whole bunch of side dishes as well - mushy peas, salad (!), baked beans...as long as its stodgy, comfort food then it'll be on the menu.

You pay £7 for a sausage meal and £8 for a pie meal. Plus a drink on top will take you to a tenner, which is not bad for hearty grub like this smack bang in the middle of the west end.

Service was good when I visited and although the space is a little cosy it's clean and modern.

Next time I get a hankering for stodge I'll be back.

This is a fine addition to Soho's roster of cheap eats. This one specialises in the classic Bangers'n'Mash in a diner-style setting. Cosy wooden benches make it a good place for a relaxed but efficient pre-night out stop. The selection of bangers 'n' mash can be mixed and matched according to preferences, but there is enough on the menu to please most. All bangers are tasty and the mash is exquisite. I love my mash! ;) It is good value for money (around £8) while the service is friendly and not rushed. Recommended.
