Yes, it’s another Japanese restaurant in London that I eat at. No surprises there… but Satsuma is a strange one - you could easily be fooled into thinking that this Wardour St hotspot is a “dress up” dinner destination for beautiful people only: thank goodness the food is up to scratch, and the atmosphere, once inside, is friendly and relaxed.

With decent veggie options, and a willingness to do my maki without mayonnaise, the food was tantalising enough for one of our party to order Dinner no. 3 even though they weren’t strictly hungry - their plate (along with mine) was clean by the end of the meal.

The high quality sushi is tenderly prepared and mouth-meltingly pleasing, although food is served when ready, instead of all together. Tea and Sake is also served, which is another good way to get me on side.

Dinner with a pot of tea: around £15 or so.

Osatsuma is a decent Japanese restaurant in the heart of Soho. The extensive menu and the long tables - some upstairs and even more downstairs - make it a great place for a group to go. Service is fine, and the atmosphere good.

The service is always prompt and the food mouth wateringly delicious. A great place to visit for a long lazy lunch, evening meal or even a business meeting. Not the most romantic of venues, with its minimalist décor but if its good food and good service in a great location you want then Osatsuma is a must.
Be sure to sample one of the many bento boxes, (a mixture of sushi, noodles, misu soup and salad) washed down with a bottle of Japanese lager. A meal for two with alcoholic drinks should set you back no more the 30 pounds. And don’t worry if sushi is not to your taste, there are plenty of other treats on the menu to suit all

Forget Wagamama, Satsuma is the place to go for Japanese food. Excellent quality service and food at reasonable prices. Whenever i'm in soho i try to eat here or a few doors down at Busaba Eathai.

Try the bento boxes. They are great!

At first glance Satsuma, based in the heart of Soho, bears more than a passing resemblance to the popular Wagamama chain of restaurants.

Spread over two floors, seating is at long extended tables you share with strangers and the staff mark off your order on your menu come place-mat. Staff levels are high and therefore service is usually very quick and always helpful.

The food itself is much better than Wagamama's and is not too expensive. Portions are good and it's a brilliant place to go if you unexpectantly find yourself hungry on a night out and want to have something informal whilst carrying on the chat with friends.

Satsuma also provide a takeaway service which is great for gluttongs like myself who sometimes find themselves working in the area and who never remember to make lunch.

A brilliant, enjoyable venue, thoroughly recommended.

Even though I’ve been here a number of times, I somehow manage to walk passed it when I’m looking for it. Although, that says more about me than the restaurant..
Satsuma is of the same ilk as Wagamama – cafeteria-style seating, etc – but somehow manages to capture something that is missing from the aforementioned chain (namely a bit of atmosphere, even when empty).. The food is good and doesn’t have that mass-produced feel you’d expect, and the pricing is quite low. The tempura vegetables are delicious to have as a side.
The service has always been excellent. The wait staff seem to know when to give you attention and when to leave you alone. It’s probably not somewhere you’d go for an evening, but is great for a quick bite before the theatre or heading out for the night (for lunch too!).
Try it, you won’t be disappointed!
