Taking place each August in Charlotte Square, the Edinburgh Book Festival never disappoints with the calibre and range of its guest authors. Even if you're not visiting for a specific reading, the buzz about Charlotte Square make it a great place just to stroll through, browsing through the book tents, eating lunch on the lawns outside or sipping a cold gin and tonic inside the fabulous moulin-rouge like tent that often hosts live jazz bands and other acts.
