The food was delicious, the service so leisurely and relaxed that we wondered whether they’d all gone off somewhere, the atmosphere warm and communal, the decor transport cafe with photos from Ethiopia. Loved it. We took a mixed starter of houmous, tabbouleh, some delicious aubergine based concoction and flat breads. Mixed platter of mains was served on a large metal tray lined with a njera leavened pancake. On it were arranged little stews, spiced lamb, lentils and salad. I don’t go a bundle on njera, so far, but the dishes were delicious with the odd blast of chili. Came out of Red Sea with four of us feeling well fed for £35. No licence, no wine, cook had sloped off by the time we asked for desserts. Try the lemon milk shake - which is really fresh lemonade.

I really want to give this restaurant five stars, because I like the idea of the multiple menus catering from the whole Mediterranean and the staff are so friendly. One problem. When I went (and I’ve only been once, so maybe I’m not the best judge) I chose the Ethiopian/Abyssinian menu and I’ve got to honest, it was awful! I had a lamb-bread curry on a Wellington boot bread base with added sides of bread. I’ve honestly never had so much carbohydrate at one time and it is not a happy experience. However, I am willing to believe that the other menus (Yemeni amongst others) are much better and there has to be a reason for the restaurant’s great local reputation. Drink is Bring Your Own, which is great as it cheapens the experience quite a bit. One to try again.

This is a wonderful little restaurant which serves an interesting mix of North African and Yemeni cuisines. They are open for breakfast and the coffees served here are excellent.I usually go for my usual chicken meal which consists of filleted baby chicken marinated in a saffron sauce and served with some aromatic rice. If I am really hungry I will treat myself and have a starter of the Shirazi Salad. There are a huge range o juices to choose from-Orange Juice toBananas with milk.Th Abyssinian Coffee is just divine
