What beautiful gardens! The care and love that’s gone into them makes them comparable to Regent’s Park at its best. Even at possibly the worst time of year they were beautiful. I especially liked the African Garden, though there was a sign up apologising for it being bare as the tender plants were indoors! The bare areas were covered with a dressing of sand, which left it very neat and elegant.
There are statues all over the place. I don’t know if they are permanent, but I enjoyed the ones of North American spirits and animals. Having a vulture in your flower bed is striking and different. There’s also a band stand, and an enclosure with goats and chickens. When I was there one chicken was using a goat as it’s very own warmed perch.
Compared to Regent’s Park it’s smaller of course. On the other hand it has the advantage of location: on the side of a hill, which does make for a few slopes (nothing too terrible) but stunning views.
