I prefer Kiraku, just a few steps away, for overall Japanese food, sinc their menu has a lot of choice. If all you want is sushi, though, then Sushi-Hiro is the place to go. Forget your noodles, forget your fried beef: sushi, sashimi and miso soup are about all you can get here.

It’s usually packed full, usually with Japanese folks. The fish is always perfect and fresh, which makes the sashimi especially nice.

The restuarant is simple, almost austere with lots of white surfaces and some black touches. It’s not very large, either.

It’s a pretty straightforward recommendation: if you just want quality sushi, this is a good place for it.

My favourite place for sushi in London, simply because it has the freshest fish consistently. The range is limited to the basics. No uni, black cod, or dessert to be found. The decor is very basic. The place is not very conveniently located for me and closes very early for dinner (9 pm!). But this place is worth the trek every couple of months when I get an irrepressible craving for real, straightforward, melt-in-your-mouth sushi. There are other good Japanese restaurants in London, where you can get more complex dishes, better buzz, etc. However, this place is at the top in terms of freshness. And definitely the best value around. Without drinks, you can have a filling, delicious meal for about £15-£25.
