People can’t stop waxing lyrical about the beer garden in this place, and to be fair, it is a pleasant surprise to find such a large outdoor space in the centre of polluted, ugly Wandsworth high street.

However, a garden aint enough for me. I need other stuff, too. Good food, for one. And pleasant interiors for two. I came here for lunch last week, and was very excited by the sound of the sweet potato and butternut squash soup, but dismayed to find that it was merely a lukewarm bowl of orange water with a hint of chilli. Truly about the most disappointing soup I’ve had in ages. I’m willing to take another plunge, though, if only because there’s quite literally nowhere else around to sit outside and have a beer without being run over!

This is a traditional style pub, dating back to the early 19th century but rebuilt in the 1930's. The interior comprises one main, L-shaped bar and a smaller separate room. The decor is fairly plain, with cream walls and lots of dark, polished-wood panelling.

The interior is now, somewhat unfortunately, dominated by a large TV screen showing Sky-Sports and Sentana, but the pub's real asset is at the rear: a huge, and somewhat unexpected beer garden for this part of urban London. It must be a fabulous place for a summer pint.

They serve Young's Bitter, Special and, at the moment, Winter Warmer, all well served - staff were friendly and pulled a good pint. They also do food, and can be booked for corporate functions in the afternoons.
