Review of Fishworks from 2 January 2009

This is one of my favourite places to eat when I’m home [and Mummy is paying- this one’s pretty pricey]; The food is fresh and delicious and seafood based in case you hadn’t realised that by the name. There’s a fishmongers in the front and the restaurant is in the back serving a selection of fish dishes as well as daily specials. Now because my mother and I are creatures of habit we tend to get the same things whenever we come here- the whitebait to share as a starter which comes with mayonnaise- the undisputed king of condiments in my book- and is always hot and delicious; then for mumsy skate with capers that seems to tremble off the bones with ease and for myself the sea bass, filleted and grilled with lemon and oil and served hot and juicy and bursting with fishy goodness. These are accompanied by crisp chips and a nice spinach and pinenut salad and washed down with a bottle of Picpoul. I have in the past had other dishes here and been more than happy with them, but my glorified fish and chips is my favourite and the quality never slacks. The service here is always impeccable, and one day when I’m a real person and able to afford to take myself to Fishworks I most certainly will- and I’ll ask Mum to accompany me to thank her for bringing me here when I come home.

This place is a fish and seafood lovers paradise! They take their food very seriously here, with just the freshest and best cuts on offer. You may not realise that there is a restaurant inside judging by the look of the place from the pavement as the front part of the entrance is taken up by a fresh fish stall where you can make a purchase and take it home to eat. It’s a fairly pricey place to eat and drink but you get what you pay for quality-wise. The selection of food on offer is delicious and the waiters are happy to make suggestions and let you know how dishes are prepared. With certain dishes you can even specify how you would like it cooked (eg: grilled, steamed, fried). I highly recommend the Alaskan crab salad and treating yourself to a lobster.
